we need a new vacuum but only have 2 rooms with carpet so I don't want
to spend tons $$. I am thinking of going to a used vacuum store and
buying one there. Do you have one you love and would recommend?
We have a Dyson and I "like" it, it's just fine. We have carpeting throughout the house with pets and I don't see a big difference at all then my old Dirt Devil or whatever that was. My DH's thought is always "$$$ is better." I disagree.

We just bought a Dyson Animal, and love it. We did a test..we vacuumed our family room with our old vacuum cleaner (Hoover), and then immediately vacuumed with the Dyson. We could not believe how much dust the Hoover left behind that the Dyson picked up. It was gross, and made me a believer in the Dyson.

We did this exact same thing. I love ours, but it is expensive. I think you can buy refurbished ones off ebay and amazon, but I don't know how much cheaper it is and if it is worth it.

Do you have the Dyson Animal because you have pets or because you like the vacuum itself? We have an outdoor/indoor cat but very little fur from her so I don't need a pet specific vacuum.
We LOVE our Electrolux Green...it has a carpet setting and it gets the carpets clean but I wouldn't use it if you had carpet throughout the entire house. It's great on out hardwood and laminate floors as well. It was $200 and has a great warrenty. ALl my grandparents have an Electrolux and they have lasted 40+years. I bet even a used one would be great.

I was prepared to spend a lot more but this one received great reviews. We have all hardwoods, but we use the vacuum on the hardwoods, tile, area rugs, upholstery, and etc. I always prided myself on keeping a clean house but was *disgusted* the first time I used this and saw how much it got up!

I don't have pets but did a similiar test with my Hoover and then with my new Dyson Ball (just got it on Sunday). I was horrified by how much dirt the Dyson picked up after I had just got done vaccuming. I am in love with my Dyson!

We have a lab that sheds A LOT so that's the reason we went with the Dyson Animal. The other Dysons are a little cheaper, and got just as good reviews.

We used to have an Oreck (really bad luck) and just needed an inexpensive vacuum that worked. We do have someone clean our house for us and she uses a Dyson. However, I wanted a vacuum to clean between her visits. I have been very happy with this vacuum. I was skeptical since it was inexpensive, but it has done a wonderful job. We just got new carpet 2 weeks ago, so I vacuumed from top to bottom twice and it did a really great job.
So, I'd say this is a great option for 2 rooms of carpet with little/no pet hair. We do have a dog, but he doesn't shed, so we don't have a pet hair issue.

This exactly except ours isn't the animal one. It was uneblievable what my previous vaccum didn't pick up. Mine wasn't a hoover though...I can't remember the name, but it's a brand they sell at Target. I only had it 3 years and it was crap compared to the Dyson...though Dyson's are expensive. You can always look for them on sale at Bed, Bath and Beyond and use a 20% off coupon.

We love our Kenmore Progressive. We used to have the Bissell that Guitarist is talking about, but one of the belts broke and we decided to replace it w/a model that doesn't have a belt instead of getting it fixed. I believe the Kenmore is rated as high or higher than the Dyson by Consumer Reports and it's about 1/2 the price.
my dad is a consumer reports expert.. so we had him do a bunch of research to find us a good vacuum at a decent price. one of the highest rated was the Eureka Boss SmartVac. we love it! and it was only $150 new. yet rated better than the dyson and many other more expensive vacuums!
Dyson - LOVE it! But, it was pricey. I have a friend with a Dirt Devil and she loves it too. She only has a couple of rooms with carpet, so it works for her.
Re: NBR: What vacuum do you have and love?
We love our Dyson, but someone posted earlier that a less expensive model worked just fine.

ETA: this is the one we have.
Because we're fancy like that.
