TTC After a Loss

Brown Tinged CM - Luteal Phase Defect?

I have brown tinged CM at 9DPO. Last cycle was my first AF since my loss and I started spotting at 10 or 11 DPO (I don't remember if I documented it on FF the first time I saw it). I took B6 this entire cycle. Do I have a luteal phase defect?

I totally convinced myself I was KU this cycle...until this morning. I have had tons of creamy CM and lots of twinges and quick cramps a few days ago. My temp went up a little this morning so I POAS, BFN and then I discovered the brown CM. FML.

If it is a luteal phase defect, what helps besides B6 because that obviously didn't work? I am so upset today. This morning, I didn't have the heart to tell DH it wasn't going to be this cycle even though I was visibly upset.

Thanks, ladies.

Re: Brown Tinged CM - Luteal Phase Defect?

  • I think your EWCM could be caused by the second estrogen surge - especially at this stage (unless you BD last night/yesterday? that always causes me to have EWCM).  I've also read that many women have colored EWCM after O - yellow or brownish seems to be fairly common.  OR it could also be implantation spotting.  I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't worry about it as being a LP defect unless you have continued spotting, and it happens for more than one cycle.

  • A LPD isn't considered unless you have red flow that starts before 10dpo.  Spotting/brown tinged cm is still considered that cycle, not the start of a new cycle.  But, if you're still concerned about LPD, here are some things that can help:

?         Vitex - 1,000 mg daily, it's supposed to be better than B6.  Combine Vitex with Red Raspberry for LPD. ?         Omega 3 Fish Oil ? 2,000-4,000 mg daily. ?         Red Raspberry - 1,000 mg daily.  Strengthens the uterine lining.  Combine RR with Vitex or B6 for LPD. ?         B6 ? 100 mg is a good amount, but no more than 200 mg daily.  Take it at the same time as your multi or prenatal vitamin.   It is used to lengthen the LP.  Combine with Red Raspberry.  If you don't like Vitex, try B6. ?         Progesterone - your dr can prescribe this. ?         Pomegranate juice ? helps build uterine lining, also helps men with sperm quality and mobility.  1 glass per day.      ?         FertileCM ? supports a healthy uterine lining, among things ?         Accupunture ? helps improve blood flow to build a stronger uterine lining ?         Fertilaid ? this is available for both men and women, includes vitamins and supplements needed to conceive.  Includes Vitex. ?         Fertilitea ? Includes ingredients needed to promote fertility, includes Vitex. Flaxseed oil - Take 1 tbsp daily (from O to AF) or 2,000 mg per day. Flax Seeds are rich in omega-3 Essential fatty Acids ?EFA? magnesium, potassium and fiber to continue steady level of EFA (EFO is EFA) throughout cycle.. Is a source of essential fatty acids. Baby Asprin ? take only one (1) per day. aka Children?s Aspirin ? 81 mg.  Start at any time of cycle. Aspirin is known to suppress natural killer cells in the uterus, so it is used for those with immune problems. Because Aspirin thins your blood, it also improves blood flow to the ovaries, improving follicle development, and improves blood flow to the uterus, improving the quality of the uterine lining. This increases the odds that implantation will be successful. Also, during pregnancy, it will help prevent miscarriage in those prone to blood clots. Having blood clots form in the placenta and/or umbilical cord is the cause of many of these pg losses.

  • Brown blood is old blood and could mean anything.  If you don't have full flow today then it isn't AF.  How many cycles since your m/c is this?

Thank you for all the information! I did the B6, POM, and green tea this cycle. I think Shell swears by Vitex so maybe I'll give that try.

This is my second cycle since my loss.

Calm down, then.  Give your body time to get back to normal.  Alot of hormones are going through your system and it takes time for it to return to normal.  I don't think you have a LP disorder.  It is to EARLY to tell.

  • i agree w/ others you have to give your body a chance to get back to normal after the m/c.  after i had wyatt i went on the pill for 2months and when i came off i had 2 cycles w/ a LP of only 9 days.  i started taking b6 and it helped lengthen my LP to 12 days.  however it does take a cycle or 2 of B6 to take affect.

i too will start vitex as soon as af finally arrives.  GL!

  • It is still totally possible that you are KU.

Brown CM is not the same as brown spotting and could very well be from implantation.

I would give it another day or two before calling yourself out :)
