Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

i'm THAT mom.

DS got a haircut today.  not the first time.  he should be an old pro by now.  but it was the first time i had to take both kids by myself.

we got to the barber shop, and i put him down on the sidewalk, and he sat down on the sidewalk and refused to go inside.  i had to sit zoey's carrier down and pick him up, then pick her back up, then open the door with pretty much one finger (i'm getting good at this, btw).

once it was his turn, it was like he had nerve endings in his hair or something.  he SOBBED.  even with a sucker hanging out of his mouth.  gasping sobs.  the barber offered me a shot of jack. ;)  thankfully zoey was sleeping peacefully in her carrier the whole time.

i tipped way too huge, took DS to get a happy meal, and gave him chocolate milk when we got home.

  • Awww....poor Shepherd.  But I bet his haircut is cute :)

  • Awww S!

    Loving the siggy though!

  • I ask this in all seriousness..why did you reward bad behavior?

Granted, my kid is 5 weeks from "belonging" over here, and my words may mean nothing.  But don't you think that now your son will know that if he cries and screams, he will get a happy meal and choco milk?  I'm not saying he needed discipline, but IMO, I don't think he needed a "reward".

but I would have def taken the barber up on the drink. ;)

  • It's hard being a toddler.
  • We gotta do what we gotta do. And I'm amazed how much strength I have in one finger -- not only for opening doors, but also for actually carrying DD's carrier and a few shopping bags. It's insane. =]

I don't see this as being bad. He is 17 months old and this is what they do.

This is what I was going to say.  It's not as though he was screaming FOR a happy meal and chocolate milk.  If he were doing that, then that is totally rewarding bad behavior.  These are totally unrelated.

LOL  Yeah, I don't think you get it.

Lily needs a haircut bad (the back of her hair is obviously uneven), but seeing as she thrashes and screams bloody murder every time we clean her face, I don't think I will be letting anyone near her with sharp objects anytime soon.

you would be amazed at how quick they are with the scissors.  S is bobbing & ducking all around, and the barber doesn't miss a beat.

Did you go to one of those kid ones or just a normal barber?

regular old barber, with a barber pole outside & everything.  $7.

  • Aw poor guy! We took DS to his first hair cut and he was ok until they brought the clippers out. Then he acted like he was being tortured but you are right the barber was amazingly fast.
