Are bottle warmers brand specific?

If I wanted to use the Dr. Brown's wide neck bottles, do I HAVE to get the Dr. Brown's bottle warmer? It's significantly more expensive than other brands.

  • Lots of my books are saying that those are an unnecessary item.  Might want to wait and see if you really need it.

  • Oh...can't wait to see the answer to this.  I registered for the The First Years Night & Day Bottle Warmer.  I had wondered the same thing!

  • Hummmm....might want to ask in a babies r us store. We used Avent bottles with our first and the bottle warmer was not Avent brand. I would think they are made to fit all bottles. Good question though. We plan on using Dr. Brown's with this baby. I'll need to find that out too.
  • We originally registered for the wide neck Dr. Brown's but ended up switching back to the regular ones and registered for the Avent bottle warmer as recommended by the BRU associate.

Oh, I loved mine!!! I think it was The First Years brand. It worked great for warming up expressed breastmilk. It is NOT SAFE to warm it in the microwave and running it under warm water or on the stovetop takes forever. It was a must have for me! I got it from my sister as a hand-me-down. This is something you dont' have to buy new if you want to cut costs - get one at a consignment sale/store or craigslist maybe.

  • Since I am not sure which bottle will work best for LO (we registered for 3 brands), I didnt put a bottle warmer on the registry. Not to mention, there was a post about bottle warmers on 0-3 a few days ago and the consensus was that they were unnecessary. One lady just warmed up a mug of water in the microwave and placed the bottle in that.

  • I agree with PP about waiting.  I bought one to use with DS and it was more hassle than it was worth.  Actually, I would line up bottles with very hot water before I went to bed and put them in a thermo tote and kept them by the bed.  I had the formula can or portioned container by the bed and when DS would wake up, I would roll over and mix them.  He didn't care if the formula was cold, warm, or very warm.  He drank it either way.  It made life so much easier when we were out and about that we didn't have to worry about warming up a bottle.  HTH.
  • No idea, but you can warm bottles up pretty fast in a cup full of warm water.  We did that, or made room temperature formula bottles.
