NBR: Am I being stupid?

One of my BIL's lives with me and DH and always sleeps on the couch. I have a set of bunk beds with a twin on top and full size bed on bottom, and a really nice twin bed that is practically brand new. But for some reason he chooses to sleep on my furniture. It probably wouldn't bother me so bad but he sleeps with his shirt off. It just grosses me out because he's probably sweating all over my couch and it's not like I can just wash it like sheets on a bed. I had told DH before that I didn't want him sleeping on the furniture and he got mad at me. But now I'm really sick of it and plan on talking to DH about it tonight and having him tell BIL he can't sleep on the furniture. Before I talk to him I just wanted to know if I'm being stupid. Opinions please.

Re: NBR: Am I being stupid?

  • Its your couch. You have every right to not want him on it when theres a bed there for him. I find it kinda gross myself. I'd talk to your DH and just explain that you really hate it.

  • I don't think you're being stupid.
  • That would piss me off and gross me out.  I get comfortable on my couch and hate the thought of someone sweating on it.  Can you put a fitted sheet on the couch?  Is there no TV in the room with the bed, maybe that's why he sleeps on the couch...?  I don't think you're being stupid at all.
  • I don't think that's stupid, and it will continue to drive you crazy if you don't say something.  Does he know that he's welcome to sleep in one of the nice beds that you have?
  • no you're not being stupid. even when I do put someone on the couch (b/c beds are full) I put a sheet under them. Gross!

  • That would definitely bother me too.
  • I don't think you're being stupid- but is he sleeping the living room, or is it an extra room w/ a couch or something?  Is it a room everyone uses each day?  It would bother me a lot more if it were a situation where you come out in the morning and have to tiptoe around to keep from waking him or something.

But yeah- sweat and chest hair all up on your couch is kinda gross to me, too.

Yes he does, he's lived with us many times throughout the years and used to sleep in a bed, but told DH he likes sleeping on the couch because then he slept on his sides instead of his back or stomach. I wanted to be like guess what buddy, I had the same probablem and bought a body pillow to keep me on my sides.

  • oooh and armpit hair! and drool!  So making this worse for you, I know...

It's in our basement living room which is where we do our tv watching at night. One night DH fell asleep on the couch and BIL couldn't get him up so that he could sleep on the couch and was all pissy the next day because he had to sleep in the bed.

  • I dont think you're being stupid, I'd be totally grossed out by that too... Especially if he's sleeping directly on the couch without a blanket or smoething easily washable in between him and the furniture.

  • I would be grossed out.  My mom never let us sleep on the couch without a sheet or blanket underneath.
  • If he wants to sleep on the couch then he needs to at least put a sheet under himself. 'Nuff said.
