Does anyone have advice on strollers for a new city Mom? We are leaning toward the Uppababy Vista 2010. My husband wants to know why we should spend extra $$$ on a luxury stroller vs. one we could buy at Target. Any thoughts?
I just received my UPPAbaby vista and let me tell you-it is FABULOUS (thanks to DH's gram who buys everyone strollers)!
It is still lightweight, but wide and large enough to take to malls, shopping, etc. My husband said the same thing that it was ridiculous to spend the extra $$ and when we got it the other day, he was amazed by it. I had several friends recommend it to me which is why I even thought of it in the first place. I will admit, I still think when babe gets older, I will want an umbrella stroller (cheapie) just for travelling on planes, etc. But otherwise, it will be the only stroller I buy. Plus, you can add an extra seat for the next little one!!!
The Uppababy G-Luxe is great as well. It's only 11 lbs wich is great in the city plus it's a little taller than a normal umbrella stroller which is great is you or your husband are 5'9 or taller. It folds up pretty small, has a shoulder strap to carry it with and stands on it's own, so you don't have to worry about it falling over while you are putting the baby in the car. It is slightly more expensive than the G-Lite but it's major advantage is that the seat actually reclines unlike the G-Lite's which does not. You can get it on Amazon for as low as 140 bucks and it got great safety ratings on Consumer Reports. Tell your hubby the 150 bucks is totally worth it, it's still way cheaper than a McClaren or a Peg Pergo or some of the others out there.
We're thinking of getting the Vista too, and the main reason is for the parent-facing seat. It's supposed to be much better for the child's development to be able to see and interact with you while you're walking. The only inexpensive stroller we were able to find that has this option is by Graco...it's a new model, and I don't think they've gotten the kinks worked out yet. It's really awkward to push when you have the seat facing you.
