WWBOTB do?

I found this amazing job that I am perfectly qualified for and is something I am really interested in doing. It's where DH and I are looking to move. If the opportunity arose where I could get this job, I would take it in a heartbeat and move right away without selling our place. (The salary would allow for us to do this).

I found the name of the HR manager for the company who is listed on the job post. However, there is no phone number. My sneaky ways lead me to his LinkedIn account and from there i was able to find his number on a website of a group he is on the board of directors for.

Would it be weird for me to call him? I can't email him without paying money through LinkedIn and I dont have Word on my mini-laptop to be able to send my resume right away.

Re: WWBOTB do?

  • I am an HR specialist and for me, it would be totally weird for someone to call about a job if I had not posted my number with the posting or I didn't know the person.  What is your plan if he asks how you got his number?
  • part of me thought yes, but he's an HR manager, he should be listed/ public onfo somewhere.  go for it & GL!

I found the number through his LinkedIn account. I figured since it was a professional account and the phone number is linked through that it might not be so weird. But then again, it could be seen as weird.

I asked my dad if he thought it was weird and he said as a director if someone called him about a job he would think it showed initiative.

I just don't want to blow it from the beginning either. I wish he listed an email address!

  • How did you find out about the job?

Career Builder. They only have a fax number listed.

  • I will never understand why people want faxes. Since it was a public website like CB I would probably go ahead and call him or at least his office or something. I don't care for faxes particularly bc anyone can grab something off themachine and then it is gone forever, and you can't prove they got whatever it was you're faxing.

  • I just talked to a friend of mine who is in HR. She in her amazing ways found a main contact for the company's HR dept.

I will just call that number that is listed on their website directly now to avoid crazy weirdness!!!! :)

  • I would fax your resume as they request, THEN call the HR director to make sure they got it.
  • Put the fax number in google. It may pull up the corporate phone number and address and then there you go.

My problem is that I dont have my resume :(

I am still out of town and my laptop doesnt have MS Word on it.

But I am going to try and call the number on the website that a friend of mine found and see where that gets me.

But what are you going to say? They are going to want to see a resume, period. Can you call your husband and have him fax it to a local staples or fax it directly to them for you. Go to Kinko's and use their computer or something. A phone call without access to your resume might seem a bit awkward and probably won't get you anywhere. Atleast it wouldn't with me if you were calling me without a resume. Just sayin'. I think you can do more harm than good if you can't get that resume to them in the next day or so.

I wanted to speak to him because the exact job is listed in both the city I currently live near and also where we are looking to move. I didn't want to just submit a resume to both and have them wonder why I am applying to the same job 1200 miles apart.
