3rd Trimester

What caused your OB to do a growth U/S?

I have been measuring 2 weeks ahead, which I know for a big portion of pregnancy means nothing, but I am kind of hoping that when I go in tomorrow and am still measuring "big", they'll do a growth U/S.  Has anyone heard of this being done for this reason?

  • That is the reason they do growth u/s's.  Just remember, even an u/s is an estimate.

  • I'll get growth u/s this time b/c DD was big and they want to keep an eye on this little guy.

It's not abnormal to measure a bit ahead, but I would talk to your Dr. about it.  I never measured ahead with DD.  Apparently she was a surprise chunker (as my Dr. said when she pulled her out).

  • My OB only does them for women who are three wekks or more ahead or insulin dependent diabetics.  I start my growth ultrasounds next week.

  • I had one at 31 weeks, lo was measuring super big so I am set to have another next week or the following week.
  • My OB's office does one at 30 some-odd weeks just becuase, it's routine they said.  I thought everyone had that!  I forget what the exact week is but I think for me it'll be sometime in March (so between 33 & 36wks)

  • I'm having one on Wednesday because she's measured a little big throughout the pregnancy.  Also, at my last ultrasound, she was still breech so they'll be checking on her positioning as well.  I'm 95% sure she's head down now, if the locationg of hiccups can be relied upon.

  • I have high BP, which typically means small baby but I have been measuring two weeks ahead every time I go.  LOL, they were concerned that I would have either a very small baby or a very large baby.  I had a growth u/s at 36 weeks and she was measuring right on time, 6lbs. 4oz.  They were nicely surprised.  I do another growth u/s at 38 weeks to be sure she is keeping up her progress.

  • My Ds #1 was a 33 weeker due to IUGR and they are keeping a close eye on ds #2
  • Previous history of IUGR (I make tiny babies). They like to keep a close eye to make sure the placenta is doing it's job.
  • Here's one I've never seen posted: I had one because I've had a gastric bypass and the OB wanted to make sure LO was getting all the nutrition she needs and was the 'right' size.
  • Mine is routine at 35 weeks!
  • yup. My belly was measuring 3 weeks ahead and had been bouncing a few weeks ahead for a while. Did growth U/S and LO was measuring 1 week ahead.

  • One dr in the practice I go to said I was "measuring big" - just one, so she said I needed a growth u/s to see what was going on.  Baby isn't big, she is fine...this dr just measures weird apparently.
  • Due to a high NT scan they just want to keep an eye out on LO although the CVS and fetal echo's came back normal.  Also, I have marginal placenta previa and LO is measuring big, so they just want to keep an eye out on everything at this point.

  • i'll have one on tuesday becuase i haven't gained enough weight.
  • I had one at my 40w appt to get an idea of LO size since I had no signs of labor coming.

  • My doctor does them routinely at 34 weeks.
  • I will schedule one next week at my OB appointment because that is her routine thing. We get one at 20 weeks and again at 36 weeks. Whether measuring big, small, or right on, she schedules them.

  • I was scheduled for one at my 36W b/c at 35W I measured small and had been measuring normally.  She wasn't sure if I had dropped and b/c my torso is long it just made the measurement off or not.  Has the U/S and head was totally down and measured perfect.

  • I had one last week.  Doc ordered one because I've been measuring big and gaining weight like champ.  She measured in the 95th percentile.  Big baby girl!
