The pp about PNP, swing, and bouncy got me thinking about how drastically different our house is now. This is a picture part of our living room while I was pg... ahhh so calm and peaceful.
I couldn't find one from the infant stage... but here it is around the 1 year mark. Getting a little more crowded in there. Notice the play yard? God, I miss that thing.
And here it is now that he has completely taken over. Notice how my chair has moved further and further up. Yeah, that's because we had to move the love seat out to make room for all his crap.
So my advice to all you preggos is to just go ahead and resign yourself to the fact that your house is no longer your own. You think all that baby stuff is going to take up a lot of room? Just wait.
Re: PIP- our house pre/post baby
I remember my aunt coming over while I was pregnant and commenting about how she couldn't fathom how we would babyproof our house b/c we have such an open floorplan. She just came over again for his 2nd birthday and just marveled at how we have done it. We did have to get creative... Dog Collar locks the pantry doors, coffee table in front of the fireplace, custom baby gate across one of the entrances... and yes, our cabinets are full of the hideaway items we don't want him to see. I feel like I am constantly re-organizing trying to fit it all in!
I used to have one cabinet that was for Evie's bottles and stuff. Now her plastic sippys, mats, plates, take n toss, etc own 3 cabinets. Plus she has one cabinet that I had to empty so she can sit in it (its her office, she's going to work so she can buy diapers.)
I only locked one cabinet that has my grandmothers china in it. She wants in it in the worst way.
Geneva isn't the least bit interested in what's in the cabinets. The bookshelves, however, are a different matter. We have tons of cookbooks out on one bookshelf and if they weren't so dang heavy, she'd have them all down in a second. She loves flipping through paperbacks too.
We're fortunate in that G's room is just off the living room. About 90% of her toys and things stay in her room and she'll go in there to play with them.
I have been so shocked by this and continue to be every time Derek is more mobile. I was under the misguided assumption everything would stay nice and neat in his bedroom. Clearly, this is not the case!
If I knew where my camera was right now y'all would die at what my living room looks like. It's INSANE how this sh!t takes over your house. From the cabinet full of plastic bowls and alphabet letters on the frige to the cardboard box playhouse in the dining room, to the gymnastics mat/balance beam and superyard in the living room, to the Barbie House in the basement, the play kitchen in Tess's room, the 5,000,000 Polly Pocket/Littlest Pet Shop and hampster cage + supplies in Emma's room it's unreal. For the most part we have enough storage where there is a place for everything but unless we are having company 99% of it stays out because they just kind of graze from room to room and play with stuff.
And yeah, I double dog dare you to open the kitchen cabinet to get a glass without a sippy cup falling out on your head.
