I DO NOT IRON!!!

Oh my gosh.  Ironing is one chore I do not do.  It is also the only chore I can have DH do with out suffering consequences when he doesn't do it... or so I thought.  For the past two years his grandma has been ironing his clothes, but she is 91 and off her rocker.  It just isn't going to work anymore.  Well, MIL is not happy that I don't do it in the first place.

This weekend she says to me, "Tell her that now that you are no longer babysitting you will have more time to iron his clothes"

Me: "No, that is still Dustin's chore."

Her: "Well, maybe you should suck it up and just do it"

Apparently SAHMs should wait on their husbands hand and foot.  If he has time to sit on his computer for hours at night or spend his weekend playing video games, he has time to iron his work clothes.

Well, I should say just HIS clothes.  It is very rare that any of my clothes need to be ironed (oh the beauty of staying home) but if they do, I will iron my own clothes.

DH isn't allowed to touch my laundry, lol

  • MIL can iron his damn shirts then.

My dad and stepmom can't believe some of the things I don't do for my husband. No, I don't iron his clothes. I don't iron my own clothes, either, that's what the dryer is for. I don't make his doctor appointments, either, and I don't make his lunch. He's a big boy. He can do all of these things if he wants to.

  • Neither of us iron.  The dryer gets all the wrinkles out good enough for me.  :)

  • First off OMG I cannot believe you MIL said that to you. Secondly, I totally agree. I DO NOT iron! We were putting DDs new room together this weekend and I couldn't stand how wrinkled her curtains were so reluctantly I busted out the iron. I spend 45 minutes irons her freaking curtains and even when I went to out them up they looked like I hadn't even touched them, they were all wrinkled again! Just goes to prove my point and why I dont do it!

Her: "Well, maybe you should suck it up and just do it"

Umm, maybe he should suck it up and just do it!  I made DH responsible for his own laundry after I got sick of him complaining that a specific pair of pants or shirt weren't washed.  They're grown men, they can be responsible for something around the house.

  • I hate ironing.  I hate ironing for my husband with the passion of a 1000 suns.  My reasoning:

    1. I don't get man shirts.  I hate how the arm doesn't connect like a normal shirt, and so the crease on top doesn't line up with the bottom seam of the sleeve.  They're a PITA, and I hate them more than I hate poopy diapers.

    2. My husband has a million shirts and 2000 pairs of pants, so its impossible to iron them all at once.  If I iron him clothes for the week there is always something wrong: "This shirt doesn't match these pants.", "These pants are too tight!!", "I just wore that shirt last week."

    3. I won't iron them the AM he has to wear them, because he leaves for work at a GAWD awful time, and DS doesn't STTN (most nights) and DH won't get up with him in the middle of the night, so there really is no way in hell I'm gonna wake up early to iron his clothes.

  • I don't iron either! I seriously don't think I have ironed in years. I don't wear anything that I feel has to be ironed, and DH just has to wear khakis/polos for work. He doesn't iron either ... the dryer seems to do the job well enough. This is one thing I apparently didn't get from my Mom, because she irons every.single.thing she wears, including jeans.

  • Two words: Dry Cleaners!  Seriously, that is who does all the ironing for my household.  I stopped ironing DH's work clothes after we had DD and I have never gone back.  It is worth the $1.50 for his dress shirts to me!

  • I don't iron. Ever.

We only buy "no-iron" shirts for DS for work, they are perfection straight out of the dryer.

Fortunately DH is not a meticulous kind of person, so for casual clothes he just walks around in slightly wrinkled shirts and pants. :P

    I know what you mean!

My H does all the ironing in this house. It's rare I need anything ironed, but if I do, I've played the whole "Honey, I can't do as good a job as you do!" card enough that he just asks if I want him to iron for me. I think he's proud of his skillz.

  • I don't iron.  Jokingly MIL thinks I should iron DHs stuff. Our cleaning lady irons for both of us and when she doesn't have time each person is responsible for their own ironing.

  • F that. I take all my husband's stuff to the dry cleaners. Actually that is a lie I don't even do that anymore he takes them and picks them up lol.
  • I don't iron, either. DH sends his collared shirts to the dry cleaner. If I have wrinkles in anything I want to wear, I just hang it in the bathroom and let the shower steam smooth it out.

The last thing I remember ironing is my graduation robe from grad school. That was in 2006.

  • I do iron for sewing though lol a lot. Because every good sewer knows the secret is ironing. But I don't iron clothes. When I used to work lol DH would iron my clothes and lay them on the bed for me in the morning like a little kid lol.
  • Maybe I'll have him look into dry cleaning for his clothes.  Either that or I need to hide his computer once a week, which would be difficult.
  • Neither of us iron. My DH didn't even know we owned an iron or ironing board until I took up sewing and used it for one of my projects. He was like "where did that come from?" LOL!
  • It's a little $$ Like I think we spend about $70 a month on his dry cleaning bill but I seriously do not care. I would so much rather be at the library with DD lol.
  • I HATE ironing with a passion, so I found a lady down the street who will iron shirts for $1. Prepay and cash, I love her!!! So worth the money.

  • I also hate ironing.  Everytime I try, the side i just ironed gets re-wrinkled after I flip it to the other side.

I am so getting the Downy Wrinkle releaser.

  • Oh, Lordy. I wouldn't react well to anybody telling me I should suck it up over a subject like that!

I'm a SAHM, too, and DH *still* does his own ironing. I hate it and get extremely frustrated with his pants, and trying to get the darn crease right -- so I gave up and I rarely do it. Most mornings he sprays a shirt with Downy Wrinkle Releaser and pops it in the dryer for a few minutes.

If I'm feeling generous, I *may* volunteer -- but he never assumes I'm going to do it. Over the weekend I ironed enough shirts for him to wear to work this week, but mostly b/c he was busy folding other laundry and I didn't feel like joining in.

  • Buwahahahahahahahahah

I haven't ironed in YEARS. I don't even know where the ironing board is. LOL My DH buys the no-wrinkle shirts from Brooks Brothers instead. Yes

And FTR, I never ironed when I worked either. I just never wore things that needed ironing OR just sent them to the dry cleaner.

My mother is scandalized; she's an ironing freak.
