I've heard that it's better to intro veggies first--i.e. if you give babies fruit first they're more likely to reject veggies because the like the "sweetness" of fruits.
I'm wondering if there is any truth to this or if it's an OWT.
Not sure if it's true, but our pedi suggested we do it that way... we started with carrots and sweet potatoes and then introduced some fruits. But I do know people who started with bananas and their LOs eat veggies just fine!
We did veggies first -- sweet potatoes then peas then carrots. And then we introducted fruits -- pears, apples and then bananas.
Elizabeth still loves vegetables, but peas used to be her favorite and now she won't open her mouth for them. She started refusing them after we introduced bananas, so who knows!
After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!
I asked our pedi that and she said it didnt matter. She said they like what they like and it doesnt matter how you introduce it. We started with a veggie (sweet potatoes), then did a fruit (bananas), then a veggie, then a fruit and alternated that way.
Ditto pp's, we started with a sweet veggie first: sweet potatoes. He loved them. We started at 6 months and he haaaated all other veggies until just recently. Don't be discouraged if all he likes are the fruits. I think since he was EBF, he was more used to the sweetness like in breastmilk. GL and have fun!

I waited to so solids until closer to nine months...but I didn't do veggies first and Paige still eats them. I actually did puffs first since that is all she would eat! Then we did banana. I can't remember what we did after that, but now, she eats just about anything.
It doesn't matter. On one hand, if you introduce veggies first, he may be more willing to accept them, however, on the other hand, if he doesn't like them, the solids experience can be negative and he may not want to try other new things. I started with applesauce, then sweet potatoes, then peas, then bananas, then squash. Tonight we try green beans! Oh, one other note, I've heard that you shouldn't introduce all orange veggies in a row (carrots, squash, sweet potato) because babies can't process beta carotene as well as older children and their skin can actually turn an orange-ish color. Not sure if it is true, but I figured it didn't hurt to space them out.
We started solids a week before they turned six months old. We did rice cereal for three days and then sweet potato. Then applesauce. Then we alternated veggie, fruit, veggie, fruit for a while. My girls love veggies and fruit. (Their favorite foods are sweet potatoes, peas, mangoes, bananas, and blueberries.) I don't think the order of introduction matters all that much.
I alternated, and Ethan eats ALL veggies with fervor still! Put a late of peas and a plate of apples in front of him, and E will choose the peas... he does love fruit, too, but he loves broccoli, asparagus, peas, cucumbers, pickles, beans of all kinds - really all legumes, tomatoes, corn, etc. He will also eat all fruits I offer...
I think it matters less if you start with one and then go to the other, but that you offer a variety and offer anything he doesn't immediately like if offered again and again. Sometimes it takes as many as 10 times to get them to eat a food that they don't immediately take to!
We started with veggies - green veggies in particular. Peas, then green beans. Then we did squash, and now today we'll start carrots (generally have fed a new food every 3-4 days - and have kept a journal to note any reactions or strange stuff). So far no strange stuff, though - a little diaper rash, but that's kinda to be expected no matter what new foods you feed, as these are his first solids.
And ditto the pp regarding the beta carotene. My Mom fed my big sister (who was her first baby) nothing but carrots for a while when she was starting solids, b/c they're all she liked. She literally turned orange. The Dr. "carefully suggested" my Mom branch out and try new foods from that point on, and she said she left the Pedi's office feeling like an absolute idiot - she couldn't believe she'd turned her baby orange and not realized it!
