Wipe Warmer- yay or nay?

my sister LOVES hers... but i read some comments about them being dark, damp- breeding ground for bacteria.

if you do have one, which one do you have - do you like it?

  • Nay.  Unnecessary. Plus, if your LO gets used to warm wipes, what do you do when you're out and about?
  • One word- shrinkage!  JK!!  ;o)

LOL, never thought of that - haha!  Guess I never had to worry about that!  =)

  • I am definitely in the minority here but I LOVE mine!  We did not have one at first, and honestly didn't think we needed one.  However, a friend gave it to us roughly about 2 weeks after DS was home.  It won me over when we had to change DS at "night" (think midnight, then 2 in the morning, then 4 in the morning, etc)  The first couple of weeks, he would be on the brink of sleep as soon as we put the cold wipe on him, he would wake up screaming!  Ughh!

We decided to try out the wipes from the warmer one night and it was love at first use.  He did not scream and stayed asleep.  We have used it ever since (and still do).

Honestly, he doesn't mind the wet wipes at home or when we are out.  I just prefer to use the warm ones.  I wouldn't want a cold, wet cloth touching my rear so I figure he doesn't either.

  • Honestly, we did get one right when we got home from the hospital, DH insisted that DD peed when she was touched with a cold wipe. Get the Prince Lionheart one if you get one, skip the munchkin one, the Lionheart one has a moist pad in it that you just put water on when you refill the wipes and it keeps them pretty wet. I used it upstairs in her room until about 1 month ago, but I just got tired of it drying the wipes out up there since I used them less frequently than my changing station downstairs. Not a necessity, but nice to have to pamper the little one's behind.

  • I say nay..... Never had one and never missed it.....

  • We have one upstairs, but not downstairs.  When we do changes with warm wipes (when DS is sleeping) he is less likely to squirm and wake up.  That is the only advantage I have seen so far.
  • We didn't have one but I think we will next time b/c the coldness seemed to and still does bother Emily. Of course that might all be different with a different baby!

  • I say nay because we never used one and haven't had a problem with diaper changes. We wouldn't have warm wipes when we're away from the house and they don't use one at daycare, so I thought it was best for Jack to just get used to cold wipes. It never seemed to really bother him, but like the PP said, that could be different for every child. Maybe give it a try without one and if your baby seems to really hate the cold wipes, you can always purchase a wipe warmer then.
  • I don't see them as a necessity at all.  I almost got one and now I am so thankful that I did not.

  • It's definitely not a necessity but I liked having one.  I even got a new one with DD2 b/c DH messed up our first one.  I got the Lionheart one from BRU the second time.  It's just nice when they are newborns to not have a super cold wipe on their toosh.

  • I got mine for free and I use it at home in DS's nursery, but if we are downstairs or out obviously the wipes are cold and he doesn't seem to mind either way. I would not have paid for one!

This exactly! I <3, <3, <3 using the warm wipes at 3 and 6am. She doesn't get startled awake! Also, she doesn't seem to mind the cold wipes any more than the diaper change itself when we're out and about (but DH and I did find a portable wipes warmer at Burlington's Baby Depot one day. I have it in the bag, but rarely know well enough in advance to plug it in).

  • I don't think they are necessary. However, my mom found one on super clearance at Target, so I will be using one. I probably wouldn't have bought it on my own, but since she got it, I will give it a try.
