Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

anyones dc had a rash from a virus?

Ds has pinkeye in both eyes, pus is oozing out of them at a crazy fast rate! We can hardly keep up with it. its so icky...

Dh took him to the doctor and didn't ask a bunch of questions like crazy mommy would.

soooo, ds also has a virus...either cold of flu or something. But today he woke up covered head to toe in tiny red bumps. The doctor told dh it was probably from the virus and it was a sign it was starting to clear up ( the virus), but he surely doesn't seem any better.

Does anyone know how long the rash is supposed to last? I want to make sure it doesn't go on too long and isn't something else.

 thanks!

  • DD got a rash from a virus on Valentine's Day and it is still there. The pedi said it lasts about 2 weeks. It is a lot better, but it is def noticeable. I hope your DS feels better soon, DD now has a stomach bug so she's been miserable. I hate it when they are sick.

  • Yep. DS is getting over his stomach virus, and when he first got it, he had a rash on his chest that looked like hives.
  • So, I don't remember what it was called, but DD had a rash from a virus.  I do remember the pedi saying that the rash is the last "symptom" to show up and it was clearing up once that came on.  Seems like it stayed around for a few days.
  • My son got a rash with a fever once, but pedi said it was a reaction to his MMR shot.  Red bumps on his chest.  They cleared up in a day or two.  I think rashes are common with fevers, flus and infections
  • Yep every time DS gets a fever he gets a rash right after it breaks.
  • Yes. DD had stomach flu 10 days ago and still has stomach/back rash. Took her to doc 5 days ago because I was concerned it hadn't cleared up. He was not concerned. It got drier, like pimples that had broken, and I've started using lotion on her. But she's not itching, so I feel she'll be okay soon...

  • My DS got a rash a couple of months ago, he had a double ear infection and a high fever.  It lasted about 3 days.

  • wow I never knew it was so common.

Thanks everyone! Poor ds just looked miserable! Between the goop on his eyes, and then stuff pouring out of his nose, now he's covered from head to toe in red bumps, its just so sad!!!

  • DS had Roseola...3 days decent fever...2 days tiny red bump rash from head to toe.  I think they are no longer contagious once the rash is gone.
