Diaper Service worth $80 a month?

Hello ladies!

There is only 1 cloth diaper service in my area and they are $80 a month. Do you think it is worth $80 a month to not have to wash/dry diapers? Thanks!

Re: Diaper Service worth $80 a month?

  • Personally no, as long as you have your own washer/dryer.

Maybe for the first month or two if you feel like you will be overwhelmed but I think I could have done 2-3 loads of diaper laundry a week (diapers are easy to wash since there isn't any sorting or folding to put way).

  • For me, no.  The main reason we first switched to cloth was to save money.  Honestly, once you get into a routine, the washing and drying thing is just second nature and really takes very little time in the grand scheme of things.

  • for me, no.  I don't find it awful to wash them myself and could never pay money for someone else to wash them, especially since they would be washing in chemicals that I don't want to use.

  • I think the majority of CDing moms on here do the wash themselves.

I have a friend who has used a service for the first month or 2 when her babies are newborns.  She also just buys her prefolds from the diaper service.

  • Not for me.  It's really no trouble to wash them and the savings is a big plus to CDing.

  • Thanks! Seems like the vote is in, wasn't sure what the "work load" was on the washing/drying, thanks again..
  • I didn't start CD'ing until DD was a few months old- w/ this baby I will do it from the start, but I have a TON of newborn diapers- I got some good deals (including a dozen green-edge prefolds off freecycle!) but I also overbought so I wouldn't have to worry about doing laundry every day or even every other day.

  • Personally, no I don't think so.  for that much money you could have an amazing stash of nicer diapers than the service would bring you.
  • cost wise no, its the same cost as a months worth of disposables. so it isn't saving you a penny. its still better for the environment but if you have your own washer/dryer you can control what kind of detergents you use and you'll save money.
