TTC After a Loss

I AM going to kill this dog, just so you all know

I was finishing up ONE email for work and she was making the "I need to go out" face. I didn't move fast enough and she peed a river on the floor. Fine, totally my fault. I didn't yell, just said "no no, potty outside" and took her out. She peed TWICE outside and squated once more, and pooped.

Brought her in, held the bone and tried to do one more email. AND SHE FARKING PEED ALL OVER MY COUCH. How does she even have any supply left?!

I yelled REALLY loudly, and was scolding her the whole time I took her out (couldn't go, can't imagine why.) I was still kind of scolding and frowning while I tried to clean it up, and now she is curled up in a scared ball in the kitchen sleeping, and won't come to me.

And I feel a little guilty, but for heaven's sake!

  • Just remember, the puppy phase passes quickly.  Our dog made us crazy!  She really used us a human chew toys when she was teething.  It was awful.

  • I know exactly what you mean. Darn puppies they look so cute but when they pee on your couch its so annoying its not like you can just go throw it in the washing machine to get it clean.

  • Puppies are so hard to deal with.  They are incredibly adorable though.  It took my pups about 6 months to be reliable in not peeing inside.

My little one likes to poop in secret places in the house though and then eat it later - so freaking gross.  At least yours isn't doing that!

Oh, she just hasn't thought of it yet...grumble.

  • I hate the puppy phase.  Sorry, that totally blows.  Ben peed on our couch once and I was able to whip the cover off and wash it in cold water on the gentle cycle without hurting anything.

  • That sucks, I'm sorry.  Can you throw the cover to the cushion in the wash?

And she'll have forgotten to be afraid of you by the time she wakes up.

That's what I am trying as we speak. I know she's a baby, but I feel like...I took you out a minute ago! How could I have prevented this?!

My dog so does that!  It is disgusting!  If we don't pick them up timely in the backyard she makes herself a snack.

  • I LOOOOOOVVVVVVE puppies. Other people's puppies.

I know this is hard to do but something we do with our fosters is until they are more trustworthy is keep them on a leash near us so that way we can try to prevent accidents since we can usually catch them in the act (or in this case it will be keeping Scout off the sofa) and also to make sure they are not chewing on anything.

When she was outside did she pee a lot or just a little?  Also, when she came back in did she drink more water?

She peed a lot when she went in the house (again, my fault) but I caught it right away and took her outside. She peed a little bit, twice, came in - did not drink any water and just went to nap on the couch (we let her, I know, bad). And then - the great couch flood of 2010.

Ugh. I just thought she must be empty right now, so we should be fine. She was not asleep, she knew exactly what she was doing.

  • That stinks. Bella peed on the couch as a puppy, too--we stopped letting her on the couch unless she was in one of our laps until she was a little more reliable.

  • I hate the house breaking phase.  Our fur baby is slowly getting to the point where we trust her inside, but she did the exact same thing and I could never predict when she had to go outside.  She's still not asking but we have her on a strict routine which seems to be working.  She'll wake up from her nap and will be fine!
