Re: what's the best brand breast pump?

  • One person recommended the Evenflo to me, everyone else has said Medela.

  • Everyone has said the Medela to me.  I posted a question on the breastfeeding board a few days ago and they told me that unless I am going to be pumping more than 1x per day I did not need to spend that much money on one.

If you will be pumping several times they all said to spend the extra b/c it will be so much easier!

  • I've gotten recommendations for the Ameda. I was told that it pumps more quickly and comfortably than the Medela. It's what I plan on getting.

  • Medela is by far the most popular brand. I have one and was very happy with it, although I have nothing to compare it to.

  • Are you planning to exclusively pump? Is there any reason you can't breastfeed? I'm asking because I had to EP, and it is TOUGH. It's all the work of formula and bfing combined. I just want to encourage you to try BFing if there's any way possible.

Also, I have the Ameda pump and it worked great for me. I EP'd for 6 months with it and never had any trouble. It's cheaper than the medela, but I've heard great things about that pump as well.

  • What kind of pump are you looking for? Electric? Manual?

I don't plan on pumping (at least, not in the beginning) but I bought a Lansinoh manual pump for relieving engorgement. It got good reviews.

I don't know much about the electric pumps, but I've heard that Medela pumps are pretty nice.

  • What is considered the "best" pump?  Probably the Medela, but also the most expensive.  I got the Lanisoh double electric, which was much cheaper, and was really happy with it.  I pumped enough to have 500oz stored before returning to work at 3 1/2 months and then pumped 2-3times a day until he was 7 months old.  It held up great and  I plan to use it with #2 also.
