2nd Trimester

Anyone else dx'd with symphysis pubis dysfunction?

After the horrible pains that were last week I talked to my doctor (phone nurse) and she said she thinks I have this.  It's symptoms are extreme pain getting up to go to the bathroom, rolling over in bed and "waddling".  I can't go up or down stairs, have to keep my legs together when rolling over in bed and getting out of the car, and sleep with a pillow between my legs.  She also recommended a maternity support band.

So does anyone else have this?  TIA!

  • I had this with my daughter and am beginning to feel the effects of it with this one, all I can say is that lots of warm baths and tylenol helped me deal with the horribleness of it,  But it never really went away till I delivered.

  • ME.  Its the most annoying part of my pregnancy.  I can't use stairs, have a hard time sleeping, rolling is impossible, etc.  I see a chiro for some relief but the rest I just deal with.  My Dr says the support bands arent very effective.  He does give women small doses of motrin at key times during the end of pregnancy.  But I'm not even close enough for him to start that.  It pretty much sucks.  I had it my last pregnancy too.

  • Thanks girls!  I pretty much have all of the above symptoms.  Rolling over in bed is the worst!  Seeing my Chiro/Massage therapist this week hopefully to get a little help.  I may still have DH go by and get my support band, I tried it on the other day and it seemed to help, so we will see!
  • I haven't been officially diagnosed but I am pretty sure that is what I have.  MH is a Physical Therapist and he called it a month or so ago..I thought it was rpl pains at first but I am sure it's not... I have all the symptoms you described...and turning is the worst.  I can still go up and down stairs but it just hurts...Turning in bed is the worst...ugh...But since I started getting in and out of bed with both feet together, it has been much easier... There are days where the pain is worse than others... Whenever it's bad, I just try to relax more...and not to do much... I have been swimming at the gym (freestyle) and believe it or not it actually helps...)  I am going to bring it up to my dr next week at my appt....

  • Yeah I was dx'd by the nurse, haven't talked to my doc yet.

She's the one that told me NO going up and down stairs.

  • Yeah...going up stairs can aggravate it... Unfortunately, I don't have a choice since our bedroom is upstairs and my office is in the basement since I work from home.... I just hope it doesn't get worse....  :-(
