Does anyone have any experience with either of these? I'm trying to decide which pump I want. The Freestyle sounds great, but I'm not sure if the additional features are really necessary. I'm sure they are both great pumps, I'm just hoping to get some personal opinions on them.
Thanks!
Re: Medela Freestyle vs Pump In Style
I have the Pump in Style (PIS) and really like it, but I don't have anything to compare it to except the pump I rented from the hospital (a Lactina)... For what it's worth, I've found the PIS to be compact and easy to use, and like that it has a cooler section to store milk. The cooler section is a little small, but if it were bigger, it'd make the whole unit more bulky, which isn't very desirable.
I have heard from several people that the PIS has a stronger suction and gets more milk than the FS. The PIS was also recommended over the FS in my breastfeeding class.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
I purchased the Freestyle and am very happy with it. The pump is small, lightweight and compact and can easily fit in diaper bag, purse, etc. The "hands free" is a joke and just clips to your bra. I seem to leak when I try the hands free so I've become quite adapt at using my knees to balence the pumps and remain "hands free". Although there are other bra attachments available, whatever. The motor is quite, strong, and works well enough.
What I didn't like about the Pump in Style is that the pump stays permanently inside the black bag and cannot be removed! Which is fine if you love the bag, but that means you will need to carry an extra diaper bag, purse, luggage, etc if you plan on going outside your home with the pump. I just traveled with my 5 week old and would not have liked lugging around an extra piece of luggage.
Hi-
I had the same debate and ended up getting the freestyle and have been quite happy. I rented the Symphony from the hospital and still use it. Both seem to get me the same results. The freestyle is a lot louder, but I love that it is so compact and portable.
Good luck with your decision.
