Will I grow into my maternity pants?

Since I'm only 19 weeks and a first-timer I'm not sure if I should keep a couple pairs of pants I just bought from Old Navy.  I've always been a medium and they just seem so big on me right now.  Especially the jean pencil skirt I got...it's just too big.  Should I exchange them for a smaller size or should I assume I'll grow into them?  I'm not showing much yet, but I don't fit into my regular pants anymore, and I KNOW I'll get much bigger soon.  Thanks for your help!

  • Depends on how big they are. If they are falling off you big, then take them back - not worth it. But if they are just baggy and lose then I would say keep them unless you don't mind buying two sizes of pants. But most women will grow enough everywhere to grow into pants.

  • I really don't know..but I have nearly outgrown a pair of maternity jeans I bought when I wasn't really showing...so it is possible.
  • I bought that skirt too and it was huge - returned it for a small.  But you probably will grow into your pants.  Everything seemed really big on me for a while, and I'm now starting to fill them out more!

  • Yes... depends on how big you get them! I have a pair that fits great but the belly band part is a bit big, although with each passing week, it's getting tighter. I bought a pair of maternity jeans that fit perfectly 2 weeks ago and I can barely get comfortable in them now.

  • I thought the same at x-mas when SO's mom got me some pants they were kinda loose in the waist..they fit everywhere now but some reason the elastic in all my mat jeans doesnt seem to hold them up so I'm always pulling them up either way.. One pair does have belt loops though.

As PP said if theyre falling off, switch em..if njust loose, wait it out.

  • When I bought two pairs of jeans from Old Navy I looked at the size chart. I was a 2 pre-pregnancy and ended up getting a size 1 in one pair and an XS in the other pair. I'm just now fitting into them at 22 weeks. I'd go exchange your skirt for a small.

  • Hey- I went through this too.  Someone had given me a bunch of medium mat clothes, but they were big on me and I felt like a slob.  Then I went to the maternity store and the women said that you buy what fits you (for me size small) and they will fit you throughout your pregnancy as long as you don't gain more than the recommeneded 35lbs.

Mat clothes have a lot of stretch built into them... so you wont' go through a bunch of sizes.  I bought my clothes at 17 weeks and now at 26 everything still fits me- except I had to get an extender for the bra.  so take them back and buy what fits you.  You will feel better if the clothes fit you correctly.

  • Maybe.  It kind of depends on how you are carrying.  I carried DS really low and didn't end up needing to go up a size.  This baby is much higher, so I'm curious to see if I'll stay the same size.

  • i would say it really depends and that it's different for everyone.  i bought a couple pairs of Gap maternity jeans that were a smidgen too big but i thought i would grow into them.  now that i'm starting to get a bigger belly the elastic waist can be a bit tight at times but i still have saggy ass syndrome.  i thought i would gain some weight all over, but my belly and boobs are the only things growing and my ass is getting flatter and flatter.  if i were you i'd take them back and get sizes that actually fit.
