Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

So frustrated with DD's sleep schedule

So she used to get up at 7:00 daily. Now however for some unknown reason she gets up between 5:00-6:30. Her daily nap has shortened as well. Today for example she took a 30 minute nap at her 10:00 normally scheduled time (she's down to 1 nap a day). I am so exhausted!!! I need more of a break! I'm 7 1/2 months preggo with #2, and am so worried about what will happen once #2 is here. I will already be going on such little sleep due to exclusive breast feeding, I just don't know what to do about her lack of sleep.

I try to let her fuss in her crib for a bit to see if she'll go back to sleep, I try to pat her back to put her back to sleep...I have tried a later/earlier bedtime. Nothing is working and I'm at my wits end. I don't have a second to myself it seems! I have time to get maybe one or two emails in, maybe a bit of cleaning and then she's up. I can't even sit down and relax..I feel like crying :-( ((f you can't already tell!! LOL)

I bought "Solve your Child's Sleep Problems" by Richard Ferber but haven't had a chance to read it yet (just got it yesterday). I hope to get some help from that! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! :0)

Re: So frustrated with DD's sleep schedule

  • This was my DS for about 2.5 weeks. I have no idea why on earth he started waking up at 5:30 for the day. He used to sleep till 7:30AM

We tried everything to get him back to sleep and nothing worked.

It all just stopped one day and he is back to waking between 7 and 7:30AM.

     Perhaps this too shall pass....

  • I feel for you.  I'm not pregnant, but I have 2 and this is what #2 is doing to me.  I get NO break from 6am until I put DS1 to bed at 8pm, DH is home after allllll of this..   I don't know what to tell you b/c I'm a slave to DS2's cries b/c I'm so worried he will wake DS1 and then I will have 2 cranky kiddos to contend with.  Not to mention DS1 was in our bed with a 104.5 last night and coughing and wheezing all night.  I will cry with you!  The only thing I can tell you is let the cleaning go.  I learned to do this when DS2 was born.  He didn't STTN until he was 11 months old, so I had to give up cleaning whenever I had down time just to survivie.  Trying to care for kids on little  sleep is not fair to anyone involved, so rest at any possible moment you can, even if it's just sitting with your feet up for 20 min.

  • I think that naptime is a little early if she's just taking one a day. We went through a bit of sleep fighting at 18 months, just being consistent is key.  Ferber will help too.

  • I am not help either, Brady is doing all of what you said plus he was up from 12:45-3am last night.  I am really hoping this is just a phase, or teeth
