Nurseries and Baby Gear

What color would you paint??

I've spent a lot of time imagining nurseries for future babies since I had a loss.  I really like this bedding for a boy  https://www.landofnod.com/family.aspx?c=167&f=4384

and was trying to figure out the best colors to paint.  I wish when we had done DS's room that we hadn't made it as babyish as we did (it's shades of blue) so I'd like to steer clear of that in the future.  We already have a white chair rail that would be staying in place.  Would you paint the same color above and below the chair rail or different ones?

Of course this is all hypothetical, but it's fun to dream :)

Re: What color would you paint??

  • Personally I think I would use that sage/olive green dot color if I painted above and below the chair rail. Depending on the color furniture you could also do the latte color - but in that situation I think I would just do below the chair rail - then keep the upper a nice neutral beige. Cute bedding!

  • I was going to say the olive color on the bottom and some sort of cream or a light yellow?  I think one of the dots was yellow/cream?  My vote would be for olive on the bottom and a warm creamy color on top.
  • This is the bedding we are using.. I painted the room a tiffany blue color.. which matches the backside of the blanket. with a chair rail and white on the bottom.

I think an olive color would look good.

  • I'd go with a gray color to go with that gray dot on the bumpers.
  • Pale Tiffany blue or light gray, with red accents. :) We're considering this bedding, too, if it turns out we're on Team Blue.
  • We're using this bedding, and didn't repaint the walls (since they were painted less than a year ago). Our walls are a very neutral gray, really similar to the dots in the bedding, and I think it looks great and definitely keeps the room from being too baby-ish.
  • I'd go with one of these choices (I think all would look nice & not baby)

    1) Match the light green & dark brown dots, paint the green on top & brown on the bottom

    2) Match the dark brown & cream/yellow dots, paint the cream/yellow on top & brown on the bottom

    3) Match the light or dark green & cream/yellow, paint the cream/yellow on top & green on the bottom.

  • For our son we are using bedding from Target with a lot of the same colors as the bedding you like and we went with a nice neutral for the wall color. This way it is not babyish and provides a really nice back drop for whatever you decide to do in the future as well as for the nursery. We went with a color called pebble or something like that. It is very warm and earthy and the bright colors really pop against it.

We are not into the ultra themed look with everything being matchy matchy so we went with similar bedding to the one your chose and then added accents as we saw fit.  We have some sporty hardware (little baseballs) for the furniture and DH found some removable wall decals that are trains, plains, and automobiles so we will likely incorporate those as well. The bedding has a loose ABC/123 theme so I made a lamp that looks like its made of over sized wooden blocks and we found a cute switch plate cover as well. Next I want to find a really funky area rug!

    Good luck!
