A complete stranger after hearing I was having twins asked "Are they natural?"
I know many people have been asked this but its so freaking rude. I really wish I had said no they're half kitten/alien. I mean really? Upon hearing you have a child, I didn't ask if they were planned or if they were an accident, if you were drunk or married, if you conceived while in the missionary position, if the lights were on and if it was a morning quickie, etc... It's such a personal, invasive question.
I don't get mad at size questions; I think they're funny, but some people just have no tact. FWIW I just looked at her kinda of shocked and then kinda uglily and said 'Yes, they are, but we had to use IVF. If we hadn't then we wouldn't be able to have kids.'
Re: First time a stranger comment has pissed me off
Oh my goodness....1 day i'm gonna say something really nasty to one of these rude people.
I have been asked really tacky questions....and some by family members! I wish I had the perfect come back.
Why can't people just say, "that is wonderful. I am so happy for you. Good luck".
I have triplets and get asked that all the time! Believe me it does not get any easier. I do have some good comebacks, all which I have gotten from friends or the boards here...
Are they natural? Yes, I try to eat as much organic food as possible.
Are the real? Well I think so. They are breathing and they aren't dolls.
Did you have help getting pregnant? Oh yes, my husband was a great help.
The one that really ticks me off is when those inconsiderate a**holes say oh are you trying to be like Octomom? That really ticks me off. It is absolutly nobody's business and most take gettting pregnant for granted. I sometimes blame their ignorance for their tackiness. However, there is no reason for thier nosiness.
Good luck!
That's beyond brilliant. Mind if I steal that? LOL!
No need to explain it if you're not comfortable! You don't owe anyone an explanation. If they ask something nosy, just say, "Why do you ask?" And if they say, "Oh I was just curious," you could just say, "Oh," pause meaningfully, and change the subject.
I would have looked at her and said, "Why do you ask?" and she what she could come up with! This is a quote from one of my favorite movies, thought it would be good here, as it seems that many strangers ask stupid questions when they find out you are pregnant with twins or more.
"You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity."

I haven't gotten that one yet, thankfully. It doesn't bother me as much, though, because I know that I've naively asked it (not if they're natural, but if they used IF drugs) of a few people before my time with twins.
I do get "You're going to have your hands full" quite a bit. I frequently use "yes, but it's better than empty," which I have you lovely ladies to thank for. That usually shuts 'em up.
Honestly, I couldn't use that response to the "hands full" comment after several of my friends have lost babies. My heart aches thinking of their empty arms that long for their own LOs ... if one of the people who makes the "hands full" comment has experienced that, think how much that would sting. The "hands full" comment might get VERY old but it's really pretty innocuous and not at all rude, so I would just hate to use a reply that might sting, kwim?
