The "big" iep meting is tomorrow.

They have me on the schedule from 7:15 to 10:00 so we can discuss all three at different times. I am very nervous about this and will be in here tomorrow asking for help and advice. I want to do what is best for each of them but there is just so much to consider. It is one of those things you never thought you would be facing. Send some T&P that dh and I will be able to make the best decision for all three of them.

Re: The "big" iep meting is tomorrow.

  • Lots of T&P coming your way. Sitting through an IEP meeting for 1 is stressful enough.
  • Loading the player...
  • Best Wishes!  I can't remember if you live in cobb or another county, but I know from friends that Cobb rocks at IEP.  I hope that your beautiful kids will get what they need.
  • GL!  I'll be thinking about you!
  • we are in Forsyth county, which is hit or miss. There are good reviews and very scary ones as well.
  • Forsyth has grown a lot, we used to have a vacation house there (off Pilgrim Mill on Lanier), but they have a number of people who work out there who want to live there and are great.  I hope you get one of those people!  If not, I know you will fight for what your little people need.
  • Good Luck - hope things really go well, and that you're able to make good decisions for each of your individual little people :)

And always remember this key rule -   DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING until you are 100% satisfied with what the paper says.  If you don't sign it, they still have to work with you to adjust the IEP to meet your child's needs.

Also, the magic words "How do I appeal this decision" (if they're not budging on things) is a great way to let them know you're educated about the process, and that there are "higher up" ways to get needs me.  Sadly, once you utter those words, you become one of "those parents" but you're also more likely to get the services you need for your child if you push using their language, and don't simply settle for what's offered (unless, of course, you're thrilled with it - which I hope you will be!!)  :)

    GL!!!

ETA:  I'm not sure in what state you are located, but it might be worth googling "Education Law Center {insert your state here}" and seeing if there's one in your state (might be under a slightly different name.  It's a great non-profit resource that helps educate parents about their educational rights and options, and often have a parent handbook you can print out/read online that gives great strategies for navigating the IEP/special education world :)
