This is me for the last 2 months![]()
I go to see my OB tomorrow for a check up. Before I go, I wanted to know what to ask her for/ to control my nausea and vomiting. I take Zofran, and I also have Phenergan suppositories. (the suppositories were from a previous pregnancy)
Both are not controlling my m/s. I have had 1 day in the last 6 weeks that I did not throw up. I throw up usually 2 times a day, the worst day was 6 times. I am not losing weight so my RE isn't concerned. He has been following me from day 1. I asked for a Zofran refill at my last visit and he said to try to see if I could go without it. I had to pull over to throw up on the drive home, and I got home and threw up. I called and it took until the next business afternoon before anything was called in.
My appt. tomorrow is with my regular OB. I haven't seen her in quite a while as I have been seeing my RE (she referred me to). Thank you in advance for any suggestions you have. I have tried lifesavers, sour apple Jolly ranchers....7up, gatorate, water with lemon slices.... etc. I'm glad I have "graduated" from the RE and will return to my OB. She is very understanding.
Re: Any m/s advice?
I feel your pain. My nausea is finally slowing down, although not gone completely.
It sounds like you have tried the meds. I have two suggestions for you. The first is ginger. Ginger anything - ginger ale, ginger tea, ginger candy. I used crystallized ginger and the non-crystallized candied ginger from Trader Joes (I see you are in Ohio; hopefully there is one near you). It gave me some relief from 10-14 weeks. At that point my nausea spiralled out of control and I ended up needing IV fluids. Which leads me to my second suggestion.....
Sea Bands. It was the last thing I tried, out of desperation that I was going to need a zofran pump. I was a skeptic, but my mother sent them to me so I tried them. The first day I didn't vomit once. I couldn't believe it. Since then, I found that I still throw up, but only a few times a day and more importantly, I am able to keep down most of what I am eating and drinking. They were a lifesaver for me.
You can buy them at CVS near the pharmacy - they are wrist bands with an acupressure point on your wrist.
Good luck. Hang in there - it DOES get better!
I had hyperemesis with both my son and daughter and it started again just days into this pregnancy. My best friend, when I was pregnant with my son, was this thing called "Preggie Pop Drops" -- you can get them at BRU. I'd pick out all the raspberry ones and just suck on those! LOL! Try flavored water if plain water makes you sick (flavored sparkling water was the only way I could get ANY fluids besides Diet Coke in me when I was pregnant with my daughter). Try some plain crackers, but not too many (I try to keep it around 3-4 crackers at a time). Sprite and Coke have always helped me settle my stomach, as have ramen noodles.
Your OB might put you on a cocktail of antiemetics - I was on Zofran, Phenergan, and Reglan during both of my previous pregnancies. If that doesn't work, she might suggest that you see a GI doctor and they might have you take your meds via IV and, if your m/s gets really bad, they might put a PICC line in and have you get nutrition though that (basically a long-lasting IV in your arm that goes to your heart).
If it helps, I'm going through the same thing right now. I know I always felt like I was the only person in the world who went through it, but it always made me feel better to find someone who was going through it too (so far, only one person! LOL!). HTH!
I had better luck with Reglan than Zofran - I haven't thrown up once since about 12/13 weeks (I'm 15 now). I still take it to take the edge off the nausea, but I can usually get by with 1 pill a day now. Nothing else I tried helped at all.
GL and hope you feel better soon.
Ask your OB about the combination of vitamin B6 and Unisom. I have been taking this since my m/s started at 6 weeks, when my RE recommended it to me. The doctors at my peri practice like it as a remedy, too.
You can get generic Benadryl cheaper than Unisom and it's the same stuff (check the ingredients!)
Thank you everyone! Im going to ask about the Reglan as well. I did try Benedryl and still puked my brains out. And....lol...I'm wearing the Sea bands as I puke.
They (sea bands) have helped me in the past w/travel...but I think this morning sickness is super strong.
