Success after IF

Kinda TMI, but could really use some help.

I have to say, especially given the amount of Zofran I have taken this pregnancy, I have had it pretty easy when it comes to constipation.

But, I was out and about the past 2 days and did not drink as much as I should have... and now I am dying.

I have been trying to go since 8:30 this morning and now I am pretty much in agony.

I have taken Miralax, have been drinking like crazy, and have been trying to walk around the house a lot to get things moving. But now I can barely walk.

Anything else I can do?  I really can't do prunes or prune juice.  There is just no way I can keep anything like that down.

Thanks.

  • This is kind of weird but a cup of coffee was the only thing that helped my Zofran constipation - and mine was horrible.

I hope you get some relief soon.

  • I had a REALLY bad day like that last week too.  I ended up taking some Colase, and then all was well, though it took 8-12 hours or so to work.

Hope you find some relief soon!

  • Oh- I do not miss those days of pregnancy.  I like the pp suggestion of coffee if you think you can stomach it.  Lots of water too.  I hope it um, clears up soon.

  • Diet coke was my go-to lax in pregnancy.  It helped so much!

  • Coffee usually works for me, too. If you can stomach it, at least.

  • Nurse Poop here ;-)

1st, if you're not taking colace on a regular basis, best start now. It's a softener, not a laxative. generic ok, just make sure it's plain ol' ducosate sodium, and not one with a lax in it. Senna is another fav, again, just the plain kind. Do AM/PM until you're good, then once a day is usually fine.

2nd, coffee.  and what you're doing.

3rd - ready for the gross suggestions?  Dig stim. lol. take a washcloth or whatever (in the hospital I'd done a lubed gloved finger) and wiggle that area around. Mother cats lick their babies's bums for a reason. Moms stick qtips in newborns bums for a reason. it works. You can also use a "baby bullet" which is simply a glycerin suppository, just insert it with a clean finger, and once you get it just a bit past the opening, it'll disappear where it needs to be. About 30mins to 2 hours on one of those. Again, generic is just fine.

Yes, I know all about poop. It's my mission as a nurse to keep people regular. lol.

  • I took Walmart brand stool softeners (per rec from someone on IF board) and it helped me go quick!  I'm not sure why it's different from any other softener but it was and worked great.

  • metamucil might help, it's just fiber pills so i don't think it would hurt your stomach. hope you feel better soon!

  • Ditto all of the above, especially the colace twice a day.  I got the Target (Up & Up) brand and it's just fine.  The other suggestion I have (and this is weird) is Mcdonalds, especially breakfast.  I don't know what it is, but this works for a lot of people.  :)

Hope you feel better soon sweetie.  Lots of us have been there and it sucks.  -hugs-

  • Colace did the trick for me.  I def encourage it and getting relief.  More harm done by suffering!  GL, not fun.
  • Thank you, ladies!

I am going to try your suggestions and hope for some relief!
