Just out of random curiousity, how many months, (if it took that long) did it take you too plan your child's b-day party.
Jumping over from 6-12, I just can't believe someone would plan a first birthday 4 months out. Definitely, too each their own, I just know it wouldn't be something that I would do.
I think I planned DS's first b-day in a matter of a few days, lol.
Re: How many months to plan b-day party?
I generally book my child's birthday party 2 months in advance, but that's because we don't do it at home anymore.
For a home party, I do send invites out about a month before, but the actual "planning" doesn't take more than a day or two.
LOL. I must have missed that!
I can totally understand booking a place months out depending on popularity but the actual planning. I guess I'm not much of an extreme party planner
Birthday parties were always low-key when I was a kid--mostly immediate family or the occasional sleepover with some close friends--so that's how I plan parties for my own children.
To each his own, blah, blah, blah, but I would rather spend money on extra gifts instead of an elaborate party. When DD turned 16 last year, I gave her a choice: We could spend a lot of money on a sweet 16 party with all her friends, or we could have a family party at home and she would get the "party money" in cash. She chose the latter.
So to answer your question, it takes me a couple days to plan the party because we keep it simple.
A few months. They aren't huge affairs (just parties at home), but I book the date with everyone around early February (he has a ton of friends with birthdays around the same day, so we need to set aside our date early), come up with the "theme", start shopping around for things, etc. DS's 3rd birthday party is at the end of April and I just ordered his invites. I am now planning the cake (which I'll order about a month in advance), and we are having a balloon animal guy so I am going to book him this week.
So, I do a lot of little things for a few months. Birthday parties are fun - I love planning them and figuring out what colors we will do, party favors, etc.
maybe a month or two?
if it was in my home, it wouldn't take long at all. but my house is tiny and we had to plan her birthday elsewhere, which required some beforehand planning. as it was i booked the park 1.5 months ahead of time and all of the good ones were already taken.
I'm not sure what we're doing for her birthday this year. last year we lost non refundable money when we had sideways rain and tornado watches.

I am ordering invites right now, so not even a month for me. We are only doing family though, so they already know the date.
If it was a family + friends party, I would guess about 6 weeks or so.
I'm giving myself a few months to plan B's first birthday because I'm making everything myself - invites, nibbles, cake, etc. At this point (5 months out almost) I'm mentally planning a lot, and sometime next month I'll probably start buying invite supplies and any decor I know will work well. The invites will need a couple weeks to be made, and I'll want at least a trial run on any snacks I've never made (cake pops for one) but everything else will probably be done the week before.
If I was doing something pretty simple I wouldn't plan so far in advance, but I don't want to do firetrucks or farm animals, which means I have to exert some effort
