OK, so my Dr. said that fasting is not necessary, just to avoid foods high in sugar, but some Drs. do say to fast, so is it better to fast to increase the chance of passing?
Also, you go in and drink something and then you have to sit at the lab for an hour until you can get your blood drawn? Do they give you the results right away? For the 3 hour test, you have to sit at the lab for 3 hours??
Re: Confused about the 1 hour glucose test!
From what my doctor said, fasting gives a more accurate result (not necessarily in your favor). But, after you drink the drink, you do have to wait an hour until you get your blood drawn.
For the 3 hour, you have to fast as the first poke is a fasting blood sugar. Then you get to wait there for 3 hours (not fun). You get poked four times overall (fasting, 1 hour, 2 hour, and 3 hour).
It all depends on the office/lab whether you get results right away or not. I do it at my doctors office, and they draw blood and send it out, so it takes a couple days
I had to fast, my appt was in the early morning.
Yes you have to sit for an hour and then get your blood drawn they need to determine how your body metabolize the sugary drink. 3 hours test is the same but you sit for 3 hours.
You probably won't get the results right away, as the lab will need to send them out to a main lab or run the results.
