Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Got the bill for the NICU stay...

DH was in the hospital for 21 days - 14 in the NICU and 7 in the Intermediate Intensive Care Unit.

Just the NICU was a little over $404,000.00

Yay for $6,000 out of pocket max with my insurance policy.

EDIT:  That's just the facility fee - no doctor's bills included.

  • Wow! I know what you mean we had around $30,000 last year for my PTL and his delivery and then we are up to $20,000 already this year with his RSV and the seizure scares. But we are only paying 6 grand with our HSA, woot-woot!
  • Wow!  That's really interesting to me.  Natalie stayed in NICU for 19 days (had a tons of ultrasounds and EEGs and a MRI and CT Scan while there).   We pay nothing out of pocket (except for our taxes, of course!), so it's always interesting for me to see people post the "could have been" bills:)
  • WOW!  My DS was in the NICU for 7days and our before insurance bill was 22,000.00  Plus 8,000.00 for my 2 day stay and 3,000.00 for the actual delivery.  Thank God our deductible is 1400.00... seems like an unreal amount of money!!
  • It's AMAZING how expensive medical bills can be.... My middle child was in the NICU for 4 months before passing away and she was up to 2.5 million.  It's crazy scary how expensive it can get!
  • Unbelievable.  Where does our health care system come up with these prices??

  • Holy shiza. Thank God for health insurance!
  • Oh wow! I nearly fell off my chair when I saw our insurance claim that was nearly 80K, NICU stay included. It's scary to think that I'd be responsible for that amount if we didn't have insurance... and my ins company gets to pay the hospital about 25% of that and call it even.
