Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

About going to one nap

DD gets up early, really early, but does better with just one nap, so I am working her toward that. My strategy has been to keep her super busy in the mornings, then nap around 11/12, for about 2 (fingers crossed that keeps up) hours or a bit more.

My question is, how long til she can comfortably stay up in the am until 11 or 12? If we are home, it's 8:30 or 9 and she hassss to have a nap. I can't take her somewhere every single day for ever!

Help!

Re: About going to one nap

  • It took us about a month. DS is pretty good at going down around 11:30 now.

  • My son is almost 2 and takes just one nap a day. He started doing that around 18 months old I think.

For us it was realizing he was sleeping too late and not wanting to sleep at night that we needed just one nap a day.

:) It may be much faster for you! DS has always loved sleeping a lot but he transitioned to one nap at daycare and we tried to keep it consistent at home. Your DD is older so I hope it's much much faster for you!

  • ETA: My son eats at 11:30am or so then lays down around 12pm or so for his nap. Sometimes we are 30 minutes later or so depending on if we did any running around that AM or if he woke up later than normal. It all varies.

this exactly.  ds was teething and cranky all to helll a few wks ago and waking super early(530a-6a)so I tried putting him down for a morning nap.  he fought it the few times I tried.  she may surprise you and only want one nap.  he still shows sleepy signs but wont take two naps.  I guess if she is ready to crash, then make it a 2/nap day.  we went back and forth for a few wks before he was truly ready for only one nap.
