I'm worried about my beta levels... thoughts please...

Well, I am 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant. My history is an ectopic short of 8 weeks in August/Sept- no surgery, metho shot. HSG cleared a blockage and came back good. Then a mc in November short of 5 weeks.

This pregnancy - 14 DPO - 37 HCG and 20.5 Prog. 16 DPO - 67 HCG. Today, 18 DPO - 91 HCG.

I was obviously very happy with the first doubling (it was a couple hrs short of 48), but this time it obviously didn't double. I got the results from the lab from today, since DRs don't work on Sunday, so I don't have an explanation yet.

Should I just be focusing on the fact it increased and not care about doubling or do I need to prepare for the worse here? Please be honest. Although I really want this to work, it isn't my first rodeo either...

I would say they are not "ideal", but I would try to wait and talk to your doctor before you worry too much. GL!

I was in a similar situation and unfortunately it didn't end well. I had some brown spotting with my second PG at 15 DPO so my OB send me in for b/w. At 15 DPO my HCG was 69 then about 42 hours later it was 90. My OB didn't seem concerned about it at that time (since it wasn't a full 48hrs later). At 6w I went in for a u/s and saw the sac and possibly a yolk sac, but it wasn't very defined. OB said not to worry, but I had a bad gut feeling. I miscarried a few days after the first u/s. I hope this is not the case for you. I'll be praying for you.

I don't know the answer, but I wanted to let you know that my T & P's are with you. I know it is easier said than done, but try not to stress. I have worried about every single milestone in my pregnancy so far-8 weeks isn't far, but it is for me. Everytime I start to worry about something, people remind me not to stress since it isn't good for the body or baby. I know, not easy to do at all and I don't always listen when people tell me the same thing.

Do you know if your P4 has been increasing or at least staying the same?

Betas ideally should double every 48-72 hours. Not everyone follows this ideal. I would try and stay positive atleast until you talk to your dr. I really hope everything is okay.

They tested for that on Friday. I didn't get the results, because the lab wasn't supposed to test for it. I know the dr office got it though. I'm assuming it was fine.

I'm going to try really hard to wait until tomorrow before truly stressing. I have to get labs again on Tuesday, regardless. So, I guess time will tell. Thanks to everyone for T&P!

I guess, I should say that those DPOs are estimated. I don't chart, so I am assuming I am that far based off of my cycle...

First of all, ((HUGS)) for all of the stress I'm sure you're experiencing right now.

I can tell you that two girls from GP who have gone on to have successful, healthy babies didn't have perfectly doubling betas. Hopefully everything is progressing well, despite the not perfect numbers.

Sorry I don't know what to really say about the betas but I heard they don't have to double completely. I'm hoping that all goes well with your betas this week. Good Luck! My thoughts are with you.

When I was pregnant with the twins my betas were horrible. They never fully doubled with twins. My RE said that betas are a tricky thing. Sometimes bad betas=bad outcome.... sometimes bad betas=great outcome. My bad betas=twins that were fine (I lost them due to infection). My RE swears that the only reason they are worth anything is to know when you should see something on the ultrasound. They do an ultrasound after it reaches 2000, you should see a sac.

I agree with pp.... first, try not to stress. I know that's INCREDIBLY difficult (and did I worry with my betas, yes!, I think it's natural for us to worry after a loss). My midwife told me that the beta number should at least increase by 66% in 48 hours. He said that the "doubling" rule is for women with pregnant brains that are not able to do math (he was joking).

Sending thoughts and prayers your way that Tuesday's lab work is phenomenal and your LO continues to grow healthy and strong.

I totally understand how frustrating these numbers can be. My betas were all over the place. They doubled, then didn't double etc. I had one draw come back as 111 hours doubling time (keep in mind this was after the level reached over 1,000 which takes 92 hrs to double).

As much as you want to see the number double in 48 hours, it is normal for 15% of all healthy pregnancies to not do so. My OB was happy with the numbers increasing and everything turned out ok. I was so focused on the number and I let it drive me crazy.

To be honest, I would worry. That isn't to say that things won't turn out well, but I tend to guard my heart when the results aren't ideal.

I too went through beta hell. I am so sorry you are going through this. My fingers are crossed for a happy ending.
