Giving DS prevacid, but how?

I've been goving Nate Zantac liquid for his reflux, but it hasn't been working too well.  So when we went in for our two month appt the dr decided we'd switch him to prevacid.  But they're tablets and I'm not sure how we're supposed keep them in his mouth long enough for them to dissolve I'm supposed to give him 1/2 a tablet). 

If you've been through this, or have any ideas, please let me know.  I'm scheduled to give him his first dose this afternoon.

    E gets Prevacid, but hers is specially compounded into a liquid.  She takes it really easily.  (Actually gobbles it down.)  If you don't have luck with the tablets, you might ask your pedi about getting a compounded prescription.

    dissolve it in water.

    i put the tablet into the medicine dropper, then stick the plunger in, then draw up a couple mls of water, swirl it around until it dissolves & feed it to them. It tastes like cotton candy so once your son gets used to 'drinking' it from the syringe, he'll probably gobble it down, mine actually smile when tehy see it coming now.

    This!  Exactly.  Get a 5ml syringe and dissolve it in water.  You might need to pull back water a couple of times to get all the prevacid out of the dropper.

    Yep I pull water into the syringe too.  A trick is to turn the syringe and keep turning it while tipping it down to get the granules in the tip. If you stop turning it they'll stick on the side but if you keep it moving they'll go down.

    I hold it on the side of his cheek (with my pinky finger....) and then I put it under his tongue. They dissolve pretty quickly....

    I've tried dissolving several times, but the granules always get stuck-no matter how much I shake/move the oral syringe.

    It really does dissolve fairly quickly in their mouths. Also, you could cut the 1/2 in half so you have quarters and then its even smaller.....

    yes i forgot to mention trying to tip downward as you give it so gravity takes the granules to the tip & then you dont have any left in the syringe.

    tried many different methods to give prevacid, including all the ones recommended in your post below.

     I found this the easiest....

    I told a regular nipple ( Playtex Drop In Slow Latex Nipple works best).  I cut and "X" into it very carefully. 

    I turn the nipple over and hold it between my thumb and pointer finger.  Pointer finger is covering the cut X of the nipple.

    I pour some room temp water into the upside down nipple -- about 5 to 10 cc/ml of water.  Then I use a toothpick to stir/dissolve the solutab --- no stabbing --- just mixing very well -- about 20 seconds or more to get all the parts dissolved.  I keep the X of the nipple covered. And then bring it to baby's mouth and she sucks it right out. 

    My daughter happens to use a pacifier.  I give her the pacifer to suck on while I mix the solutab, so that when I give her the nipple filled with meds/water, she is in a "sucking" mood.

    Wow, that is creative. I have to keep that in mind if mine start giving me trouble taking theirs (which they both did when they were sick & having to take antibiotics that they didn't like also...)
