their nanny called me at work (i work a few afternoons/wk) and said, "i can't believe i have to tell you this..." with sobs in her voice. of course i felt sick to my stomach as soon as i heard that.
audrey had just woken up from afternoon nap, and the nanny was changing her diaper on the change table. (i had just mentioned to the nanny last week that i never use the table anymore, and only change diapers on the floor. but i didn't tell her NOT to use the table.) anyway, she did the typical thing you're not supposed to do... turned around for just a second. she had put audrey's pants down on the glider ottoman and turned around to pick them up to put them back on.
audrey flipped over and fell straight down on her tummy/face.

i told the nanny to pull it together for the sake of the baby, called their ped office right away. they told me to go home and check out how audrey was behaving, check out her joints, look for excessive swelling/redness, etc.
went right home and audrey started crying when she saw me, but really looked good. the only physical evidence of a fall was a little redness over her eyebrow, but i'm sure she is sore and a little traumatized by the event. she was kind of fussy for the rest of the day. the rn said it was good she didn't fall on her back and slam her head down. thank god! it was hard not to hold her all day afterward. we gave her some children's motrin at bedtime.
needless to say i am a little disappointed in our nanny. these kids are # 11 & 12 for her, and this has never happened before. she couldn't stop appologizing. she is so loving with our girls, so we have let it go.
i am so grateful she is ok. if you have any caregivers other than yourself, remind them not to leave baby (or turn around) even for a second, on the change table. it is something everyone KNOWS but i wish i'd told our nanny NOT to use the table anymore now that the girls roll over so quickly.

Re: baby fell off the change table yesterday
So sorry, I'm glad she is doing ok! Don't beat yourself up about not saying anything to the nanny..Unfortunately it does happen a lot (I know I fell off the bathroom counter as a child when my mom went to grab something & she still talks about it and just about everyone I know has a story like this, so know that you're not alone!.)
I hope she's 100% normal today for you

that sucks. I feel really bad for the nanny -- because even the best of MOMS have things like this happen to them- i'm sure her guilt is even worse in many ways.
My good friend's daughter fell off the table - and she was RIGHT THERE but had turned her HEAD to the side - didn't even move away ---- so these things happen sometimes... it sucks.
i'm glad she's OK.
Ugh that sucks!! I'm glad it sounds like she's OK. I must say, it's great that you have a nanny who was so upset over it and called immediately to fess up - I'm certain not all nannies would be that way. A good sign in my book FWIW.
Thanks for the reminder, I won't forget it!
i feel bad for the nanny too! she sincerely felt awful.... probably still does. while i wished i was there when it happened (to catch audrey), in a way i am so glad it didn't happen with me.
