Unlike most, my OB doesn't induce at 38 wks. I know it's unlikely that I'll make it that far, but I was wondering if anyone here made it to 39 or 40 wks. I already feel huge and miserable and the thought of having 3 more months left makes me want to cry.
Re: Anyone make it to 39 or 40 weeks?
2 days shy of 39 weeks. I passed up my scheduled induction at 38 weeks and my doctor would allow another week max. I was induced at 38w5d, was 100% effaced, but barely dilated. I tried for a vaginal delivery but B started to block A in the birth canal and so they converted it to a c/s.

Ditto this word for word.
(I was dilated to a 2 or a 3 for about a week before my induction. I had TONS of BH but I'm really not sure I would've gone into labor within the next few days if I hadn't been induced.

i made it to my scheduled c/s at 38w1d with no signs of labor- so i think i could have easily made it another week or two... but the risks go up after 38w and i was not willing to risk it... 38w is considered by most docs, to be the best time to deliver twins. Some docs go to 39w (my boss's wife went to 39) but that is the absolute latest you should go--- the placenta can deteriorate/detach if you go too long with twins.
the avg twin birth is 35-36w... so you might not make it that far- but certainly many of us do go further, too.
my maternal fetal doc said that if I don't go into labor by 38 weeks to get ready to have a birthday party. I think his reasoning is mostly due to his experience that by that time, the baby is outgrowing the placenta and the placenta just isn't doing it's job anymore.
I carried to 39 weeks and 6 days. My OB typically induces at 38 weeks, but I was not favorable for induction. She let me carry longer to increase my chances of delivering vaginally.
Every OB is different and mine explained to me that the most current research supports allowing a problem free twin pregnancy to continue to 40 weeks. She shared the research with me and allowed me to consider the basis for her decision. Most OBs who will let you carry past 38 will only do it if yo have 2 placentas, At 40 weeks she worries about the size of the babies putting pressure on the cords.
In the end I still had a c section for failure to progress and the last two weeks were harder than the rest of the pregnancy. Plus I was so heavily monitored that I was at the hospital every other day. But everything ended well.
Induction was scheduled for 38w1d and my water broke at 37w6d. Almost made it to induction. For me, I was begging to be induced earlier(@ 37w).
If I remember right the biggest risk is the age of the placentas and that they are ok to continue.
