Re: The ground is shaking

  • I don't know how you Californians handle earthquakes.  I would crap myself over the smallest ones.  Give me tornadoes and hurricanes any day.

And I hope that there is NOT a big one coming.

  • Loading the player...
  • I like to think of it this way...  maybe the little ones are releasing some built up pressure - keeping the "big one" away a bit longer.

(IDK, but that's my wishful thinking at least)

  • You should come move near me in the middle of the country.  Sure there is no beach for thousands of miles and no mountains for hundreds, but we don't get earthquakes.

I'm in the Inland Empire. Right in between Los Angeles and Palm Springs.

LIES! Northern IL got a pretty large one just a week ago! I thought I got away from those things when I left CA.

  • Gerogia and the Carolinas get them.

I believe there is a fault line that runs through Memphis too.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have nightmares about tornadoes (literally, I dream about big tornadoes that I'm trying to run from but can't.)  Isha's right though, I've sat right through several and never felt a thing.

  • Earthquakes would scare the piss out of me. I don't know how you do it.

See that's why you all should just come here, where there are no earthquakes but we DO have the ocean and mountains!

If I'm not mistaken the one in Memphis is worse and more powerful because the plates smash together verus rubbing horizontally.

The one under the carolina's is pretty potent too, but just not very active. I would not be able to handle CA.

  • I didn't feel it.  Is your h home?  You're more than welcome to come hang with me if you're alone and scared.  You can help me fold laundry Wink
  • Come to Pittsburgh! We don't have earthquakes. Well, we had one like, 5 years ago, but no one new until the scientists told us it happened.

And we have beaches, if you count the snow banks on the sides of the river. Snow is almost like sand.

There was an earthquake in Illinois a couple of weeks ago and one in Texas about a year ago. I feel more comfortable with earthquakes  in CA than I do in the South/West because most of the newer buildings are retrofitted for them.
