  • I sing "Favorite Things" to DD when she's sad.  As for LO, I don't sing to him yet, we just have talks. :)
  • We sing Amazing Grace.

  • I sing "You are My Sunshine" and we have talks so baby can hear my voice without all the background noise.

  • Since babies in the womb respond more to tone than anything, I like Amazing Grace because it is very pretty, soothing, and the tones are pretty strong. I also like You are my sunshine, and The Rose. And I also like alot of songs sung by Taylor Swift, and Carrie underwood since they have pretty, soft songs.

     Here's the Rose:

Some say love, it is a river
    image
    That drowns the tender reed
    image
Some say love, it is a razor
    image
That leaves your soul to bleed
    image
Some say love, it is a hunger
    image
    An endless aching need
    image
I say love, it is a flower
    image
    And you, its only seed
    image
It's the heart, afraid of breaking
    image
    That never learns to dance
    image
It's the dream, afraid of waking
    image
    That never takes the chance
    image
It's the one who won't be taken
    image
    Who cannot seem to give
    image
And the soul, afraid of dying
    image
    That never learns to live
    image
When the night has been too lonely
    image
And the road has been too long
    image
And you think that love is only
    image
for the lucky and the strong
    image
    Just remember in the winter
    image
    Far beneath the bitter snow
    image
    Lies the seed
    image
That with the sun's love, in the spring
    image
    Becomes the rose
  • Here Comes the Sun - Beatles

    Golden Slumbers - Beatles

    Imagine - John Lennon

Here they are. I think I'm going to end up framing these lyrics for Henry's room. When DH heard them, he got teary, too. :)

    Be strong in the Lord
    And never give up hope
    You're gonna do great things
    I already know
God's got His hand on You
So don't live life in fear
    Forgive and forget
But don't forget why you're here
    Take your time and pray
And thank God for each day

  • I sing a lot of Glee (like daily) and also country. Currently in the cd player is Lady Antebellum. I don't make a point to sing a specific song to LO, but I love the idea that LO might know/like Glee. Would drive DH nuts!

  • I sing all the time in my car, which is a lot because my commute is an hour each way so LO hears everything.

Check this out though:  In my childbirth class this week we learned that studies have been done showing LOs that are sung too regularly are happier & more relaxed.  So the recommendation is pick 2 songs- one to sing/listen to when you are stressed out & 1 too sing/listen to before you go to bed/nap.

Once LO is born he/she will recognize these songs.  If you sing the relaxing song when LO starts to freak out they will calm down.  If you sing the sleepy time song when it's bedtime, LO will understand it's time to sleep.

Sounded pretty cool so I thought I'd share.  DH & I haven't picked out sings yet, but are going to this weekend.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • Interesting idea, MWoodside. I may have to try that.

My husband likes singing random songs to our little one. My favorite is "Blackbird" by the Beatles. Classic, and lovely.

  • "You Can Close Your Eyes" by James Taylor and "Power of Two" by Indigo Girls.

When I first got pregnant I used to sing the version of "Maybe This Time" that was on Glee ALL the time (b/c I like to pretend I can sing like Kristin Chenowith) but then morning sickness hit like a freight train--and now everytime it comes up on my ipod I feel nauseus.  Shame, because it's such a great song to belt out in the car.

  • Anything!  I sing mostly just what I know the words to -- lots of Elton John, Billy Joel, Otis Redding, stuff by Gershwin.  Dave Matthews, Disney stuff, Beatles.  I sing along with whatever's on the radio if I'm in the car.  If it's a rockin' tune, she starts squirming.  If it's a soothing song, she calms down.  I love it!
  • I can't sing. I used to attempt it in the shower but now I don't really because I don't want to subject the baby to my tone deaf squawking.

I think I'm going to leave the singing to DH...

  • Since the movie Waitress came out I have wanted to sing the song "baby don't you cry(the pie song).  I love that song.
