Blood spot question?(SIL)

So my SIL got a + at 14dpo (no fertility)

At 5w6d she spotted and went for an u/s and they told her blighted ovum and the sac measured 7 weeks and empty.

At 7 weeks she went for another u/s and had a heartbeat and measured 7w1d

At 9 weeks she had another u/s and they said there was a blood pocket lower down and that is what caused the bleeding and it was a twin that didn't develop.

Does this make any sense? I'm just curious how confident this doctor was to say this because of course now they are thinking they "lost a twin". Would this be for sure?

I was told when Baby C stopped developing, that I could experience some bleeding, I didn't though; my body absorbed everything. I don't think there is any way to know for sure.

Is this similar to a "vanishing twin" pregnancy? I have a friend who went through something quite similar but instead of following up the dr pretty much told her to go about her life and she didnt realize she was still carrying one baby until she was over 4 months pregnant. The remaining baby was/is fine and healthy as can be.
