Pregnant after a Loss

Those who have had a "missed" miscarriage...

Can you explain a little bit of how things happened for you?

Did you have any idea you were in danger of miscarrying?  Did you lose symptoms?  if not, what were your symptoms of pregnancy?

Is there anyone out there who never bled and continued to have sore boobs and really tired?

My Dr. is concerned about miscarriage, but i am not having any physical signs at this point.  i'm scared.

Re: Those who have had a "missed" miscarriage...

  • Did your Dr. tell you why he was concerned?

I lost symptoms, but I had heard at that point (11 weeks) it was normal to feel better. I did not have any idea, except on the way to my appt, my gut didn't feel good and I told my mom I was afraid of miscarrying...But no outward symptoms at all. Just went to my 11 week appt and no heartbeat. Went to the u/s room and found out the baby died in the 9th week.

I hope everything goes well for you.

  • Why is your doctor concerned?

I had 2 missed miscarriages, both around 9w after seeing a "perfect" 8w heartbeat. I continued to have symptoms, feel pregnant, and I never had any bleeding. I went in for my next ultrasound only to find no heartbeat.

  • I found my missed m/c at 11wk 3 days and after getting an u/s discovered that the baby actually passed away at 9 wks. We did see a heartbeat at 6wks and my dr told me after you see a heartbeat the risk of m/c goes down to 3%. Before you see or hear a heartbeat the risk of m/c is 20%. Well we were part of that 3% and even though my baby died at 9wks, my body didnt recognize it and m/c naturally. I ended up having a D&C.

Now looking back my symptoms did go away around 9wks but at the time I just thought I was one of the lucky gils that wouldn't have a horrible 1st tri. I didnt even have any bleeding or cramping to indicate something was wrong.

If your still having pg symptoms them I wouldn't worry too much about it unless there is another reason your dr gave you to be worried about m/c.

Good luck and I hope you have a H&H 9 mths.

  • i'm sorry for your losses. :(

Yeah... i went in for an early u/s and the Dr. found the ultrasound to be "inconclusive to viable pregnancy"  I'm not sure what he was looking for... maybe a heartbeat?  I was still only at the end of my 5th week, so ithought it was semi normal not to see heartbeat yet.  I'm sent for the 48 hr. HCG tests... but the paperwork reads:  "threatened abortion"

:(  So, i'm assuming he's concerned i'm going to miscarry.

I haven't thrown up (which i did with my daughter at this point) but my boobs are killing me and i'm going to bed hours earlier than my normal bedtime b/c i'm so tired.

i won't know anything about HCG results till Monday.  :(

  • I hope everything goes well for you.

I had a missed m/c at 10.5 weeks.  We had seen the hb at 6 weeks and thought everything was great.  I had crazy symptoms that never went away until after the loss.  I was scared the whole pregnancy, which I don't really know why.  At our u/s at 10.5 weeks, we learned the baby had stopped growing around 6.5-7 weeks.  So we were in that 3% low m/c probability and unfortunately, it didn't work out and I ended up having a D&C.

  • I am sorry you are going through the worry of this.  And I truly hope you are not having a miscarriage.

For me, I went in at a little over 9 weeks for an ultrasound and they could not find the heart beat.  The baby had grown to 8w3d.  I never had many symptoms like morning sickness.  But my bb's were sore and I was more tired than usual.  With this pregnancy I haven't had many symptoms either though.

I think since you went in so early, you may not always be able to see a h/b at that time.  So keep your hopes up that every thing will be ok and your hcg is doubling!  You;ll be in my prayers.

  • Sorry you are going through this -- My 2nd m/c was "missed m/c". The only sign I had at 7 wks was light brown spotting. I didn't have cramps and I had nausea every afternoon/evening just like I did this time. I was tired and my chest didn't go down. For my 7.5wk appt, I went in and they couldn't find a HB. They drew blood and my betas were where they should be and had doubled accordingly. I thought I was in the clear. I had a 2nd u/s at an offsite imaging place and they couldn't find a HB either. I went in the next day for a D&C . I hope you have a better outcome
  • Why is your dr concerned about m/c?

With my first missed m/c, I went in for a 9wk appt, and the u/s showed growth at 6wk with an unsteady hb. They monitored me for 3 more weeks until the hb ended. With the second, I had a great u/s at 6 1/2 wk, and went for my 12 wk appt only to find growth stopped at 7wks, and no hb. I had rpl bloodwork done, and the verdict was simply bad luck. For both pgs my symptoms remained the same, no cramping or bleeding, and I had severe m/s for the second loss, so nausea is no guarantee for a healthy pg. Ultimately though, a missed m/c is just that, you don't realize when the pg has ended. If you're having a healthy baby, it will be really hard to shake the pg, and if the pg is not healthy, there is very little one can do to help it. Try to take care of yourself and simply remind yourself that today you are pg, and you are until someone tells you that you are not.

EDIT: I just saw your reply about the u/s--5wks is early for a hb to show. He may be doing bloodwork just to give you some answers faster than waiting a whole week for the next u/s, and they have to use that coding term for insurance approval. I hope you get reassuring news!

  • I had terrible m/s and fatigue.  I also had tender breasts.  I had no idea anything was wrong until we had our first u/s and there was no heartbeat and baby was measuring a week behind.  I went in for another u/s a week later and baby had not grown and still did not have a heartbeat.  My hcg levels and progesterone were also increasing as they should.  I did not lose my pregnancy symptoms until after my d&c.  I hope everything works out okay for you.  Good luck.

  • I?ve had two missed miscarriages. I had no spotting, bleeding, cramping, anything either time. I just went in for an ultrasound and found out the baby?s heart had stopped beating weeks before.

Good luck girl, I really hope you don?t have to go through that too. I will be sending T?s and P?s your way.

    Keep us updated

  • Sorry you are going through this.

I had no spotting/bleeding/cramping, no loss of symptoms (which were sore boobs and fatigue, no nausea that pregnancy), just a baby measuring two weeks behind with no heartbeat on ultrasound.

  • thank you, everyone, for sharing your heartbreaking stories.  I hadn't known much about missed miscarriages till now.. and i'm very concerned.

i am also just hoping that i was too early for my u/s last time.. and that the Dr. is using the term "threatened abortion" for insurance purposes on my bloodwork papers.  I'm trying to run with that!

i'll know the results of my HCG tests on Monday. God help me through this weekend.

    thanks again, everyone! ox

  • I had all the symptoms of being pregnant, that is why it was so hard for me to accept the fact that I was not pg.  I had a blighted ovum and it was obvious from the u/s's that we had, but just took awhile for me to accept.

I hope you do not have to go through this.

  • I'm kind of lurking but couldn't help respond to this post. Don't read into the term "threatened abortion." It sounds absolutely horrible but that's a generic term/diagnosis they use when there is any concern or need to run additional tests. It could very well have been too early to see the heart beat. I think I saw my DS HB at about 7 weeks because my dates were off a little. Hang in there. Try to keep your mind off it over the weekend (easier said than done).

I hope your HCGs go well. That being said, don't read into the first result. You really do need to wait until the 2nd to see if it doubles. I'll be sending positive thoughts your way!

  • I dunno if I count, because I had a series of weird occurances...

I went in to the ER at 8 or 9 weeks because of a UTI, I had spotting because of that (once, a little blood)... the U/S looked good, so I got antibiodics and was sent on my way...

Went back at 10 weeks because I was vomiting CONSTANTLY (apparently because of the antibiodics), got fluids... the U/S tech checked for a HB on the doppler, "found one", and was sent on my way..

At my 12-week check s/he was sizing at 8 weeks, no HB..

I'm convinced it was the antibiodics that caused it, but we'll never really know. I didn't have any bleeding other than the UTI, but who knows..

  • At my 6 week u/s appointment the baby had a low heartbeat of 86.  I had another u/s 10 days later and the baby no longer had a heartbeat. :(  I had mild nausea even after I knew I'd lost the baby.  My Dr. said that was common because the pregnancy hormones were still in my system and my body hadn't recognized the pregnancy had ended yet.  I waited to miscarry naturally and it took 10 days.
  • My missed m/c story is that I started having brown bleeding from about 5 or 6 weeks (I really can't remember) and I did have m/s and tender bbs from about that same time. I went in at what should have been 7w6d and the baby only measured 7w2d but there was a heart beat, my Dr told me I only had about a 2% chance of m/c and the reason for the bleeding was because the baby was sitting low in my ute so she told me no sex, no exercise, no lifting, etc. As it started getting closer to my next appt my symptoms started going away which I thought was normal and I still had the bleeding. One day I woke up used the bathroom and when I wiped it was bright red blood, I called the Dr and they said to rest for 1/2 hour and check again. When I checked again there was nothing. They had me come in anyway and when they did the u/s I knew immediately. That baby stopped growing 7w4d I should have been 11w2d then. I had the D&C two days later.

I hope you end up with good results and this is your sticky baby.
