TTC After a Loss

Stupid newb question about multiple loss group terms...

I noticed on the multiple loss group check-in posts some losses were called "m/c" and some were called "loss." I understand C/P, ectopic, etc. but what is the difference between "m/c" and "loss" - or is this just using two different words that mean the same thing?

  • I always wondered that, too.  I don't know if you saw Shemico's response, but I guess the distinction is that "loss" denotes a later (2nd or 3rd tri) loss, as opposed to a 1st tri m/c.

  • i think it depends on the situation and the person writing it.

medically speaking, a m/c is a loss up to 20 weeks and then after that a loss is considered to be a stillbirth.

  • I did not miscarry my first baby, we had to terminate due to extensive complications. That's why I say 1 loss, two miscarriages.

I kinda wondered if that was it... I was guessing it was either that or "loss" was an all-inclusive term if it was unknown if it was a c/p, ectopic, 1st tri m/c, etc.
