So I had my check-up yesterday, and apparently I'm measuring 3 cm ahead in fundal height. The midwife I saw (not my normal midwife; she's out this week) recommended that I have an ultrasound next week to check on things.
I know these measurements can be notoriously off. I also know that DH and I were big babies at birth, so I sort of expect a big baby.
If you measured significantly ahead any any appointment, how did it work out for you? Did you do the ultrasound? What did that involve? Or did it resolve itself in a few weeks?
Re: If you measured ahead in late second / third tri come in
I measured 2cm ahead most of my second and third trimesters and the u/s I had at 30w said Ellie was already 4lbs 3oz, on track to be over 8lbs at birth.
Wellllllll they were wrong. She's only 6lbs 15oz! Don't stress over the mesurements, even u/s can be up to two lbs off in either direction! Sometimes it's even something as simple as this different mw says that your pubic symphasis is in a different place than your regular mw.

Our family is complete!
I measured 3 weeks ahead at 32 weeks. My ultrasound showed she was prefect size... measuring to the day... and I have good fluid.
My doc says that torso length and body type drastically effect the measurements. They check because they need to confirm ok fluid levels, but not to worry unless you are REALLY off and have not gained weight for some sort of combo that doesn't make sense at all.
I'm sure all is well... Good Luck!!
Hi Rhody!
I measured 2 weeks ahead for a lot of my pregnancy, then 3 weeks ahead toward the end of 2nd tri, and finally 4 weeks ahead as I reached 3rd tri! I had the growth u/s at 32 weeks and it showed the baby being average sized and my fluid levels normal. So, no real explanation. Suddenly at 36 weeks I measured on track.
LO was born at almost 41 weeks and was only 7 lbs 3 oz. And in fact by then my fluid was a little low. I just had a big belly, or else the measurements were just meaningless.

I have been measuring ahead through most of this pregnancy. 2 weeks ago, I was measuring ahead by almost 3 weeks. I was a teeny baby (5lb preemie) but DH was a 12 pound monstrosity....sort of hoping for a middle ground baby!
My midwife isn't terribly concerned, but we're going to do an U/S today to check on things. She reminded me of a few things:
1.) Due Dates are a guess. There are many methods to determining them, and none of them really work! Babies come when they're cooked.
2.) It's very rare that a woman's body will make a baby it can't handle. Women have been giving birth to large babies for thousands of years; true pelvic disproportion is pretty rare and even if you are an unlucky one, medicine can handle it.
3.) Ute measurements don't always correspond to baby weight. Even ultrasounds are generally off by a pound to a pound and a half.
Anyway, if you want - watch what happens with me! I'm a few weeks ahead of you, so maybe you'll get a glimpse into your future.
