Nursing MoM's

Do you have the same DC on one side all the time, switch every time, or maybe stay there all day then switch next day?  i can't figure out what is best.  I've been trying to have DD1 on left and DD2 on right, then switch next day, so forth.  Is it even necessary to worry about it?

Re: Nursing MoM's

  • Early on I tried to switch sides each feeding, but I realized it was just easier to keep them on the same side for a day and then switch.

  • I switch sides each time.  Sometimes I forget and it's no big deal.  It's really just what your preference is!
  • I keep them on a side for they day and then switch the next day.
  • I would switch them up more.  One baby might be able to empty a breast better, seems like it'd be better to have everything even.
  • In the beginning I switched them with each feeding. Now I switch them every day.
  • You'll probably want to switch at least every day to keep your supply regulated.  (One baby may be a heavier eater, which would keep that breast larger and fuller if you never switched.)  The LC at our hospital recommended switching on a daily basis.  I started switching at each feeding after some clogged ducts and just never stopped!

  • I switch each feeding, but if I forget it's not a big deal.

  • I agree about switching every time.  One of my babies was a better nurser at the beginning, so I would have had issues if I didn't switch up every time.  Now that they are older, I still alternate for the most part, but they have their own positions for naptime and bedtime.  I nurse with one one across my lap, and the other with her head on the first's tummy, in a football hold.  Does that make sense?  So, my more squirmy girl goes on the bottom, where she's kind of pinned down by her sister :)

    This.

  • I kept track in the beginning and now don't bother keeping track.  I figure that according to random chance, they'll each be on each side about 50% of the time.  I don't try to remember who was on each side but might decide more based on which boob is heavier (has more milk) and which baby might need more (maybe because didn't eat as much during the last meal), or I just pop them on whichever side without rhyme or reason to it.
