Registry price range question

My mom commented today how I don't seem to have a lot of "in between" priced items on my registry.  I have some pricey stuff (for those who want to splurge or for DH and I to buy after) and I have a lot of things under $20.  But my mom was saying that most of the under $20 stuff is the little things..meaning people will feel silly giving say, one crib sheet.

I have like 6 things between $30 and $50 and I was just wondering if that seems weird.  I didn't pick stuff based on price but I'm curious now if my registry is lopsided :-p

Re: Registry price range question

  • It seems fine to me! If someone wants to spend more than $20, can't they just buy 2 or 3 smaller items? Just register for what you need/want!
  • Loading the player...
  • Don't have any idea if I have any "mid-range' stuff on my registry. I picked things based on need, not cost!

  • What does she want you to do - add things on that you don't want? I have no idea what the price distribution is on my registry and I'm not too worried about it. You should be, either!

  • i had about 110 things on my registry total.  probably about 30-40 things in the $25-$50 price range.

  • Honestly, when I registered, I registered for what I needed ... my mom said the same thing (not only about my baby registry but my wedding registry as well ... that I didn't have enough options in various price ranges) ... but honestly, if you think about it ... why would you start adding things to your registry simply to make buying easier for shower guests ... registry is supposed to be a list of what you need ... not simply to make buying easier ... I say register for what you need ... in the end, thank goodness most of my guests gave me gift cards which was perfect.
  • I wouldn't worry about that. Put on there what you want/need. If people want to get things off of your registry and want something mid-priced they will either buy a bunch of little stuff or get together with others and buy you something bigger.

  • I didn't really pay much attention to the price of things we registered for (not enough for it to stick in my head anywho).  I registered for things we thought would be useful to have.  People can always buy several low priced things if they want to.

  • I hear what your mom is saying - I thought the same thing about mine for a while...but she's forgetting that the registry is not about the guests. A registry is a list of things that you want/need for the baby.

It is a list available for the guests to review, but you aren't supposed to put random objects on there just because someone might be looking to spend X amount of dollars.

If the guest has a specific price range in mind they have options; they can buy something not on your registry, they can get multiple smaller items from your list, or they could give you a gift card (preferably one of those Visa cards that don't have to be used only at one store).

I know she's just making an observation, but if I were you, I wouldn't go about changing your registry to make others feel like they had a better menu to pick from.

  • That tell you to do price range things for your wedding, which is totally different.  To be honest, a lot of people bought a few small, practical things which was really helpful. A lot of the time, people have a price in mind and buy random items based on what they want to spend. I would not just pick other things to add based on the costs because then you will have some more expensive things that you don't really want and have to buy a whole lot of little things which add up pretty quickly.
  • I just picked stuff I wanted/needed. I felt a lot of it was too much for one person to buy, but they can give a gift card for a portion of the item. I wouldn't worry about it.
  • If I want to spend $30 on a gift and the person doesn't have anything in that range, I buy two or three lower-priced items. I don't think this is a problem.

  • I say stick with what you NEED. Don't add stuff you don't need just to get a mid-range. If people want stuff in between, then they can just buy TWO things for $20, can't they!?

  • Basically what everyone else has said-- don't fel pressured to register for things you don't need just to balance out your registry. People can go in together for a bigger gift, buy two smaller items, or get a giftcard! Tell your mom not to worry.
  • Ok, I'll go against the tide here. I actually get a little annoyed if I am going to a shower and take the time to go to the store that the person's registered at only to discover that all the items are either $10 or $100. It is much easier to find one item for $50 than to shop for five different items in various parts of the store to add up to how much you want to spend. Although your registry is your wish list, it is also nice to keep your guests in mind since they are the ones buying things off of it and to provide them with a range of prices. That's not always easy or possible, but I think it's nice to at least make an effort.

  • I didn't have a lot of mid-range stuff on my registry either. I just didn't find anything I needed / wanted in that price range. If people want to spend $40 and you don't have something for that price they'll probably buy a couple of smaller things.
  • Actually, it seems like the little stuff gets bought quickly. People actually like those things because they can buy you several items. When you register with Target they suggest you have things in several different price ranges.

  • Almost everyone got us more than one thing at our shower.  The ones who got us one thing got more expensive things.  I think 6 is plenty.  If they don't want to get you one crib sheet they can get you a sheet and a toy and a bottle brush.
  • You have plenty of inbetween things on your registry.  As a stalk it everday for you I can name what they are....

    Bumbo

    Diaper Genie

    Boppy

    Jumper thing

    Bottles

Diaper bag...which I noticed you changed.

    Your play gym

Keeping in mind that you only have 40 items on there....I say thats a good amount.  Plus some people like to make baskets with smaller items and some people like to do themed gifts.  Also based on whats already been purchased on there...I think shes wrong.

  • I wouldn't worry about the price range. Don't put extra stff just to get a middle price for people. And don't get cheaper or more expensive brands of things you already have either. Put on the list what you want and need. I had plenty of people that bought I sheet and a set of socks to go with it. Or a little outfit. People will buy what they feel comfortable with.

  • We have a few high end stuff (glider/dresser) then a few 75-125 range stuff (bassinet, car seat , stroller system etc) then a few mid range 35-75 like the high chair and then a bunch of under 30. There is little you can do, I would register for things just to keep the price range wide.
