Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I am that mom

At DD's Wiggle and Giggles class today they totally threw me off and had them finger paint. I immediately started cringing. They were in little toddler chairs, I started having visions of DD getting paint on her clothes, my clothes, eating it, running away smearing paint all over the room like a cave kid.

I was totally out of my comfort zone. But I let her do it. It turned out super cute and there was minimal damage done to our clothing, she did however eat some paint.

I didn't want to let her miss out on the fun because her mom is OCD

I am all about finger painting in a controlled environment like her high chair with me in raggy clothes and her naked. Lol. It felt good to leave my comfort zone.

We left with blue hands though :)

  • Can you please talk to my sister?  lol.  She is very OCD (as am I), but her 2 1/2 yo daughter now freaks about any sort of mess.  Get the vacuum, clean my hands, etc.  My sister needs to hang out with you and just relax a bit.
  • Glad you were able to do that and you both had fun!!  I can understand your feeling though.  I don't really enjoy letting DD do messy things out of my comfort zone either.  I tend to strip her down at home to eat alot of times so she doesn't mess up her clothes!!
  • I am so glad I am not alone. You know how it is all the clean up work falls on you. Getting the stains out of the clothes and cleaning the mess etc. You just try to shortcut things.

I know a little kid who is like that because of his dad too. If he gets something on him he has a "tantrum". I am using "tantrum" in quotes because it is the word of the day ;)

  • I am very ocd about how my clothes are washed and such.  Dh can wash his own clothes but not mine.  I hang dry most of mine.  He can wear something one time and get a stain on it and it is ruined.  I hate when that happens with DD's clothes, especially if it's a really cute outfit!  I send her in her play clothes to the sitter because I know that she is not as crazy about as me.  My mom is though so it helps.  ;)
  • Good for you! My sister is anally neat and I sometimes think her kids miss out on some fun stuff because of it.

Finn usually comes home from MDO covered in paint or washable marker. I just make sure to send him in play clothes and say a silent thank you that laundry is the only part of that mess I have to clean up, lol.

  • I first read that you immediately started crying.
Stay at home mom to a house of boys: two amazing stepsons, 12 and 9, and our 4 year old.
  • LOL!! I have a cave kid!

  • Lol at crying, oh gosh I hope I am not that OCD lol.

  • LOL I hear ya.  I'd feel the same way.  I'd let her do it, but I know I'd be cringing inside.

I'm really worried about making DD OCD.  She has started taking paper towels and wiping up the floor with them.  She also uses her little vacuum popper thing and pretends to vacuum the floor.  I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not (i.e. she will help me clean or she'll have issues).  I'm not even that much of a neat freak, she's just a little copy cat.
