starting birth control pills after delivery?

I'm about 4 days post partum and my doctor prescribed me birth control pills before i left the hospital. i am completely drawing a blank as to when to start them. am i supposed to wait til i get my period and then start them on the Sunday after it? or can i start them this coming Sunday?

    I started them at 4 weeks pp.  Basically, when my bleeding wasn't too heavy anymore and my milk supply was well established.

    Unless there's new rules, you wait till you have your first period and start the Sunday after - but call your doc to be sure. (Keep in mind you can ovulate before you get your first period!)

    Are you BF?  Is it the mini-pill?

    If it's the mini-pill, you start before you get a period, but not until your milk is in.  There's no off week or anything. 

    I'd call the doctor and get the instructions.  Since you're not supposed to have sex until at least 6 weeks, you shouldn't have to worry about it for a little while.
