I work in a hospital...my insurance requires that to avoid a huge oop that I use the lab on site...SO @ 7am this morning I am checking in for my lab...
And this is what happens:
Co-irker #1- So why exactly do you need to do a 2hr fasting glucose? Are you pregnant? (said co-irker nows about IF.)
Me- Um, no...
Co-irker #1- Are you sure? I mean why else would you need to do one..seriously are you?
Me- Yes I am sure...it's part of the screening process. I AM NOT PREGNANT!
(Meanwhile I want to throat punch her in to next week and tell her "STFU')
2.5 hours later...I am in the chair getting the last vial of blood drawn...
Lab Tech- Are you JakesBride?
Me- Yes....
Lab Tech- Ok someone is on the phone, wanted to know if you were still here, I'll let them know you are here.
Me- Must be my boss making sure I am ok.
Lab Tech- Um, Co-irker #1 said call her in _____Center as soon as you are finished...
(Sound I mention Co-irker #1 is sooooo not my boss...not that I feel that is appropriate either but, she is a worrier...)
And when I call Co-irker #1 she needed to ask me how to log in to one of the systems...(Um 1. I am not on the clock right now. 2. You have a half dozen others that you could have called. 3. Seriously??? Who calls the lab looking for someone???? GRRRRR... 4. Oh I could go on and on.)

Re: CO-irker vent...(long)

Wow. That's not just annoying. She stepped over the line by asking you such personal questions about the test you were having done.
I'm so sorry.

yeah I think someone needs a lesson on confidentiality and HIPAA- while being told to mind her own business.
When I worked in reproductive health, I coud get my exams and birth control for free by using the clinic that I worked for. I have this HUGE issue with keeping my professional and personal lives separate. So no I never took advantage of this free service.
Strangely enough it is sad to say that it is the trend...I've worked for another office also where a co-irker had the NERVE to tell another co-worker my test results BEFORE I even knew (not that it makes a difference.) ON MORE THEN ONE OCCASION!
AND THE KICKER??? The Office Manager said that the co-worker should have never told me that my results were disclosed...she should have just approached her...I wrote a formal complaint for each occasion...the co-irker was never disiplined and about a year after she finally quit, they hired her back! (After which I had already left.) WTF????
Thank you IVF for our little miracles!!
