Swelling

How much swelling is too much or would you contact a doc for?

Is there any reason for concern if it's just from the calves down (not face, and only very slight in hands) and there are no other signs of pre-e?

Re: Swelling

  • If it came on all of a sudden I would call your OB. My OB said to call whenever there is a change from "normal".

  • I second pp.  My OB advised that if the swelling comes on gradually over several days or weeks, then it's okay unless I'm not able to manage it.  But she did want me to call the office if it came on more suddenly.

  • When is your next appt? If its in the next few days, you'll probably be ok.  But if you are nervous about it or it came about overnight, then call.    I had really bad swelling for 2 months.  My dr. was not concerned, since it was my calves down.  Although I did end up with pre-e, but my blood pressure spiked at the end, but by then I was 37 wks.
  • I went in to the hospital for swelling on Tuesday b/c we thought it was so excessive.  They hooked me up to the machine to check babies hearts and me and it ended up that I was having contractions every two min.  They ended up giving me a shot to stop the contractions and sent me home.  I have an appt with my obgyn Friday morning so I guess we will see what he has to say!  Good luck and I will let you know how it goes
