Q Re: Party post below

Why do you feel obligated or sucked-into buying something when you attend a home show party?

I ask because I am consultant for one of these companies and would LOVE some input about how to not have the guests feeling this way.

tia!

Re: Q Re: Party post below

  • I feel bad knowing the consultant or host put effort into the party. By walking away w/o a purchase I feel like it seems I don't really care and went for the food/ drinks only.

I can totally understand that. I always did the same before now. But as long as a guest isn't grabby with food & wine and totally ignoring me, then the more the merrier!

what she said.  usually i am not interested in the thing that is being sold, ie jewelery, pampered chef etc....so it would be free loading if I did go!

  • Ive never felt I HAD to purchase something that being said Ive walked out of 2 lia sophia parties empty handed and didnt feel bad.
  • I would feel less obligated to buy if the host and the consultant both were upfront and said "there's really no obligation to buy, just come for the company/fun/etc" and then have this message repeated during the actual party.  But that does seem anti-sales-ish for the consultant. :(

    This, same with Silpada.

I don't always feel this way.  It depends on what the product it is that is being sold.  I'm personally not a big fan of southern living parties and my friend's mom always has one...every few months.  It is also hard because we have a large group of friends and the same consultants tend to circulate through the friends so sometimes there is a party every month and it gets expensive.

This. I am also a VERY frugal person and sometimes I can't justify spending the amount of money that some items cost. I also do not wear fake jewerly... I know that sounds like such a pearl grabber but I dont like fake jewerly.

  • I know that in some cases the hostess gets more stuff depending on how much their guests purchase. I feel like by not buying I am prohibiting her from getting more free stuff/product.
