Pregnant after a Loss

Booked Maternity Photographer (LIP & ?)

Would you use a phographer who really doesn't do maternity pics but is sooo badass you know her pics would be great no matter what?  Does it matter?  I'm really into quality photography and she's top 5 best wedding photographers in Texas.  Should I look for a maternity photographer?  She fully admits she's never done a session before but she's the best with weddings, bad idea?

Edit: I had to add to take her site off or she'd see me. Geeked

Re: Booked Maternity Photographer (LIP & ?)

  • I say go for it.  My BIL takes absolutely gorgeous pics and has won awards for them and he is taking mine.

I looked at the blog and the pics are amazing.  I love that they aren't posed...they look natural.  That's the type of pictures we are going for.  I can't wait to see how they turn out...assuming of course you post some here.

  • Go for it. I'd look around at some poses you like and show her beforehand, just so the two of you have a place to start.

  • I don't know why they would be different than any other portraits. I think for newborn pics I would look for someone who has photographed a newborn before and knows how to manipulate them, if that makes sense, but for you it shouldn't matter.

I say definitely go for it. A good photographer is a good photographer, and if you're with someone you're happy with, that will show in your pics.

When are you having them done?

  • I'd say go for it too. I don't think it necessarily matters if she's done maternity specifically, just that she has a great eye. Plus, if you know some pose or picture you really want, you can always show her some poses from the girls here.

  • Her work is amazing.  I would say just take some ideas with you or email her the ideas of what you want.  Did she sound confident that she could do it no problem?  Or was she hesitant?

  • Those are gorgeous!  I say if she's game, go for it!
  • She's making me take them in May since June is too hot and I would sweat through everything & I insist on outside pics.

This. Her photos are seriously awesome - I doubt you'll get a bad maternity picture even if she isn't that experienced in it.

She's not hesitant, she just doesn't really do certain things.  She said she doesn't do bare belly (I'm 100% for that) she doesn't like "cheesy" and she likes final artistic say (which i think means she doesn't liek tobe told what to do) she doesn't like posing so she wants all photo journalism.

  • The only advice I have is to MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHTS TO YOUR PHOTOS!  I'm still dealing with this crap from my wedding.  I picked my photog b/c she was "really good"... the best, great photos, everything.  She was perfect.  I signed the contract and everything has been horrible since.  We went to finally order our pics from her this week and the 2010 prices were more than $5 extra per 5x7 than the 2009 prices.  She never even told us they were different!  Anyway, make sure that you get to keep and print all of your own photos whenever you want.  It's such a hassle that it makes even the best pictures depressing to look at.

Sounds good, but if you want to pose... could be a problem.  I think the main trouble is when photographers of PEOPLE want to be artists and don't consider what you as the client want.  Just a thought.

oh, yeah.  For sure. Also, I do weddings, I doubt she'd do anything to anger a mouthy pregnant BUSY wedding planner.
