DH's class keeps getting BIGGER and BIGGER! There's 22 kids now and 3 teachers. I know that the state of Alabama says that for his age the ratio can be 1:8 but seriously...I teach that age in Sunday School each week. There's two of us in the room each week. We usually have no more than 9 kids. If we had 16, I would be looking for another way to serve. And I know I don't teach kids every day but still...I do think his teachers handle the situation really well but everyone has their breaking point and I am afraid we will lose his good teachers if they aren't happy. And it's not a fear...I know there's been teachers who have left b/c they have shared with me there were times when they were over ratio...I think I am going to check around to some of the daycares here and find out what their ratios are for that age. Our daycare was "all our ratios are way lower than required" when they opened 2 years ago but now it doesn't seem that way at all. I feel a crucial conversation coming on...
Katie...sorry if I am freaking you out but honestly, until now, most everything has been good
( I will say the ratios in the youngest ages were always great...usually 1:3.
Re: Daycare vent
I totally feel your pain. It seems like most days, there are WAY to many kids in J's class. Of course, in the mornings, several of the teachers don't get in til 8, so I think they all kind of run loose until then - I mean, there are several teachers around, but it just seems chaotic to me.
I have often thought that maybe I should look around, but J seems really happy, and I really do like the staff, and the location is great for us.
