Autumn's biliruben level is down to a 14.7!!!! We're below the "magic number!" Even before they got her bloodwork in the doctors saw her and said she looked AMAZING! They expected a "pumpkin baby" from what was written on her chart, but she looks great. They may not even send us home with a bili-blanket, depending on how they think she'll do at home. And they'll set up an appt for us to come here tomorrow for another test to make sure she doesn't jump back up. This way I don't have to drive to Chapel Hill, have her checked at the birth center, drive home, & wait for blood work from UNC to come in again. AND, if it does jump back up, we'll already be here! Close to home and with the people who cared for her all last night and today!
Hopefully we're going home soon!
Re: Good News!
***Baby #3: BFP Mother
That is great news, I'm so glad she's doing better!
I have a question, and maybe I missed this in an earlier post. If so I apologize. But do you not have a pedi where you live? Why would you have to drive all the way back to Chapel Hill to take her to the birth center? Where will she be going for her general care?

go glad to hear that!! i hope it stays well and you get to go home and stay!!
Great news!
The birth center actually likes to take care of the babies for the first two weeks. They generally do the two week check up of mom & baby and then I go to the pedi for her 4 week checkup and return to the birth center for my 6 week checkup. I plan on using Growing Child Pedi. in N. Raleigh and the doctor who did our pre-baby appt actually has worked with the birth center often and likes their work, trusts their work and did not mind one bit. He said it's normal for him not to see babies until they're almost a month old if they come from the birth center because they get the home visit immediately and then the 2-week checkup with the center.
However, IF for some reason I cannot set up an appt here at WakeMed to have her bloodwork done here, then I will call Growing Child. I will NOT be going to the birth center for blood work because I already KNOW that they don't do the blood test. They use a skin machine to test, which isn't nearly as accurate, AND then if blood gets drawn it's driven over to UNC. I didn't mind this when it wasn't a big deal at first, but now that I know we've already been here to WakeMed and I know that we will need a blood test, why would I bother with the whole round about way of getting it taken care of when I can easily stay closer to home and have an answer a lot sooner? Also, if we do need to return to WakeMed, like I said, we'll already be in the area and I wouldn't have to worry about more medical records being transferred from one hpospital to another - the pedi office would probably be able to do it a lot quicker.
I'll probably still visit the center for her 2-week checkup, as I'll need to be checked on anyway. And then I'll do my follow up visit at 6 weeks. But I don't think they'll be taking care of her further in regards to teh jaundice - it's beyond what they can really help with and I'd rather stick with the care we've had already.
Thanks for all the well wishes!
