Regular Pants vs Maternity

Right now I'm still wearing non-maternity clothes, but I'm basically down to one pair of jeans that is still comfortable.  I know there is a wide degree of variation, but when did you ladies switch over to maternity pants full or part time?  Just curious.  Thanks!

  • Around 20 weeks I started wearing only maternity pants. I could still do the bella band under my belly now with my pre-pregnancy jeans. But the maternity jeans are just soooo comfortable - why not start early? Plus, I see it as getting more wear out of them since I will only wear them for a few months out of the year. :-)

  • 1st pg:  22 weeks?

    2nd pg:  8 weeks.  YIKES!

  • I'm still using my bella band and wearing leggings.  I have a pair of maternity leggings that I like to wear for yoga and a pair of dress pants that I still haven't worn.

  • Hi,

Just got my first pair of maternity pants and their great.  It seems that it's not about fit as much as comfort, meaning just because your old jeans still fit does not mean that they are still comfortable.  Go out and try a pair of maternity jeans and see how you feel in them and Good Luck.

  • I retired the B-Band and regular pants around 21 weeks.  I probably could have made it longer but I was ready to be comfortable!

  • I got my first pair of maternity pants at 18 weeks. The BeBand with my regular jeans were too much of a pain. The mat pants I got though were full panel and I didnt have enough belly to hold them up, so those were a pain too! So, I recently got some from JC Penney that are cut like regular jeans, but have the elastic part on the side and around back along the waist band. They stay up perfectly without any tugging whatsover. I LOVE them!

  • My jeans are pretty tight. I squeezed into them last week because my one pair maternity jeans were dirty. Now that I have a second pair. I don't plan on wearing them anymore.

There are still a few work pants that I fit into and I will wear occasionally. Give it a few weeks and I won't be able to fit into them anymore. I prefer Maternity pants because they make me look pregnant and not just fat like regular pants do.

  • I'm 14 weeks and haven't switched over yet, but it will have to be soon. My jeans are really uncomfortable right now.  I started to try on maternity pants, but even the smallest sizes are too big for me right now because i don't really have a belly yet. They fall down and have way too much extra material in the back.
  • Maternity pants still look baggy and frumpy on me, and I'm 22 weeks. I have one pair of jeans that still button, but I prefer to wear my "skinny jeans" with a belly band.

  • Still not. I rotate about 5-7 pairs of my old jeans using rubber bands and the belly band. Sometimes I think it would be more comfy to be in maternity jeans but I just haven't gotten around to buying any yet. I'm afraid to order online and it's hard to find them in the stores so I'm waiting til it becomes a real issue.

Me too except it was probably closer to 14 weeks before I completely switched over.

  • I'm down to one pair of regular jeans, and 1 that I can wear with a belly band.  Once the ones that I can wear regular need a belly band I will probably go buy some maternity ones.

  • I'm still wearing my pre-pg pants almost exclusively.  Of course, I can't button them or even zip them all the way, so I have to wear the Be Band every day.

But honestly, my maternity pants are still too big and I'd have to wear the Be Band anyway to keep them from falling off.  Annoying!

  • I'm almost to 25 weeks and I'm still wearing all my regular pants with a "Tummy Sleve" (a variation of a Bella Band from Motherhood Maternity).  I got two of them, one in black and one in white and I wear them almost every day unless I'm wearing a skirt.  I've had to switch to maternity shirts though since my regular ones became too short once my boobs and belly started to emerge!  I'm hoping I can hold off until the last minute without having to go to maternity pants as I am trying to save as much money as possible right now.  We'll see how I'm feeling in a couple weeks, but for now everything still fits except in the belly area.  I really do love my belly bands and I'm considering never buttoning my jeans again!  LOL

  • I still have a few pairs of regular pants that I can wear without a belly band or anything. But I lost 10 pounds immediately prior to getting pregnant, so my clothes were kind of loose.

  • Pretty early on - around 12 weeks I think. As soon as I couldn't get my pants buttoned. I hated wearing the belly band with the unbuttoned pants (zippers cutting into your belly - not comfy imo!) and preferred to use it with maternity pants to hold them up instead.

Try the gap long & lean maternity jeans with the demi panel. It's a good 'transitional' jean since it doesn't have the full panel.

Yep, I think I will be switching soon.  My neighbor gave me a bunch of her stuff, I just didn't want to be wearing them "too soon".  Maybe I'll put on a pair tomorrow....

  • Also wanted to add that I cleaned up at Gap/Old Navy's cyber monday sale when i got mine and I still see huge sales from them all the time. I've been able to completley get by with 2 pairs of gap jeans (one darker, one lighter), black slacks (got those at kohls and love them), gray slacks (old navy), and 1 pair of khaki cargo pants (old navy). I think I've spent maybe $150 total on maternity pants. Worth it for 6-8 months of use!

  • I gave up on regular pants around 17 weeks.  I had a noticeable bump by then.  I could never comfortably wear the bella band.  Maternity pants were baggy and looked frumpy on me at 17 weeks, but I just sucked it up for a few weeks until I filled them out better.  I hit a major growth spurt around 20 weeks and my maternity jeans fit much nicer now.
  • I just bought a pair online....I really wanted to make it to 20 weeks but I am SO sick of wearing my PP jeans with a Belly Band.  It's just uncomfortable and I feel like I have a muffin top. image
  • lurking from 3rd tri.....

i'm still using the Target Be Band...been using it since 33 weeks.  GL! :)

This is about the same time I started wearing maternity pants as well

  • I'm still in my usual yoga pants that I wear everyday to work as a nanny, but when I go out and need jeans or dress pants, I started having to break out the maternity ones that I had to buy last week since my non-elastic waisted pants were uncomfortable.  So I'd say about week 15 for me.

  • i have a couple pairs I still wear.?
  • I started wearing maternity pants part time around 14weeks.  I think I made the final switch last week.  I put on a pair of regular pants that had always been loose prepregnancy and they were crazy tight. I guess 21 weeks was my full maternity switch.  (Though I am still wearing my old sweat pants for lounge wear but they just have drawstings and elastic so no biggie.)

This. Its great that you can still fit in prepreg pants but maternity really is much more comfortable

  • I wear maternity pants to work now, have since around 16 weeks.  I can still wear my regular pants/jeans with a beband so I'll do that too.

  • I switched over from the very beginning because of crazy bloating.  Besides, the maternity pants are more comfy...  why not be comfy? :D
